New to Spotify

Ive been using Spotify for a couple of weeks now. Today it’s decided to play up. I can ask Alexa to play music no problem but I can’t play it through my phone to listen through headphones. It used. To happily chance between the two and even connect to the car. Now I can old listen to the preview on my phone until the screen locks, that also turns it off. 
Tried delete app and redownload, turned phone off and on….. how can it suddenly stop part working? Can anyone help?
