Question of the Week: Instruments!

Question of the Week: Instruments!

Hey there fellas!
Your soundtrack-lover here 😎 🎸

Another week is nearing its end, which calls for a new Question of the Week!

What are your favorite musical instruments, folks?
Which ones from them can you play?
Which ones would you love to learn playing?
Let us know in the Comments below 😁

Mine would be the guitar, violin and piano, although I've only been -sort of- playing the guitar for the past 10 years.
Would love to learn playing the others at some point, even if it's just a specific song 😄

And speaking of songs, here are some related tunes hehe:

spotify:track:2un3YmeL3YOx9gNKvuvBiP
spotify:track:0byPyCPX9mfGMiAGVZxasq

Cheers!

Great question, @Vasil!

I’d say that my favorite instrument is the electric guitar, which can be heard in a lot of my favorite songs. I appreciate the electric guitar for its variable timbre, which can change considerably with factors such as the settings of the amplifier, any effects pedals that are used, how the guitar is played, and the qualities of the instrument itself. I like both distorted and “clean” electric guitar sounds in music, but I think I tend to especially appreciate recordings which use fuzz or wah effects.

I started playing an acoustic guitar about 12 or 13 years ago, and then tried playing electric bass guitar for a couple of years afterwards during college (I would “jam” with one of my friends who had an electric guitar and bass). I later switched to playing both acoustic and electric guitar, and while I most enjoy playing my electric guitars these days (my favorite being an Epiphone SG ‘61), I tend to reserve those times for when I’m home alone with the windows closed (due to the loudness).

Electric guitar is also the instrument that I would love to continue learning to play. I haven’t taken lessons from any instructors before, but I think that doing so could help me to improve my skills, so this might be something for me to look into.

Cheers!

Great question indeed @Vasil  !

I've played the piano since I was 6 years old I think and I find it really relaxing to sit and play. Unfortunately, I don't do it as often anymore (even though I have a piano at home) so when I sit down to play, my fingers hurt a bit after a while 😅 It's like a "workout pain" for the fingers 😄

I would love to know how to play the guitar and drums too!

As much as I love the individual instruments and everything they can do, I don't feel like I want to stick to a specific instrument and its sound. Blame my love for electronic music for this. My favourite music is full of sounds that can't really be created by a conventional instrument-shaped instrument.

I guess the short answer to what I'd love to do is sound manipulation. : ) Start from a simple sound and see where you end up...

I don't play any instruments though, I am doing visual art instead with my favourite medium being graphite.

@AdamDamon & @RebeckaL,

Look at you go 😄 I guess I shouldn't be surprised but I am 😄 (in a positive way)
My hands also hurt whenever I play because I tend to skip 3 weeks and then play for 3 hours straight (until I can't anymore :d) and there's a... mild afterburn that lasts for a week 😅

If we gather enough folks we could definitely do a cover of an easy but cool song where everyone records their parts respectfully and then we mix them 😀🙈

And @Sebasty can maybe make some graphite cover art hehe 😁😎

Looking forward to seeing the answers from everyone else 🎉🎊

Bass guitar, without a doubt. I started out playing guitar, but Seas of Cheese made me understand the bass in a _whole_ 'nother way. I absolutely love bands/songs where the bass is as big a part of the music as anything else. Gnarly, clanky, dirty bass tones are what I look for. I was just playing Iron Maiden (the song from the band) for the past hour. I can't come close to Steve Harris, but it's fun to try.

I can play a few different instruments, but synth is one that I'm learning and loving. So much to explore, even with a basic monosynth. Endless textures, tones and expressiveness. So much fun to spend so much time on. 🙂
