Flashback - Calvin Harris

Not just any song for me. This was literally my first ever song on Spotify. And it teleports me straight back to a very specific era, pre-kids, peak clubbing, zero responsibilities, fridge full of nothing but beer and optimism. I was basically just vibing through life with absolutely no idea that within a couple of years I'd be married with a wee one and my wildest Friday night would be arguing about whose turn it was to do the night feed.

I don't pine for it or anything. But every time those synths hit, for about 3.5 seconds I'm 25 again, standing in a queue for a club I am not cool enough for and probably couldn't afford, thinking I had all the time in the world to be that way. Then my kids start shouting and I'm back in the room.

What a tune though. Calvin knew EXACTLY what he was doing.

For me, it's a lot of the old Newgrounds songs from back in the day. That was my favourite site for a good while and I spent a huge amount of time there. One of my favourite activities was always perusing the audio portal for new music and I've discovered a ton of good stuff this way, not to mention how many genres I've learned about from there. Whenever I listen to any of these, it takes me back to those old days, browsing forums on the sluggish family computer and exploring the Wild West days of the internet. I do miss it sometimes.

Another one is this song. It's a hugely popular Bulgarian rock hit, but to me it holds special meaning because it was played a lot at school events, especially our annual fest. It takes me back to my final years of school before graduation and the many times we were singing this with all our hearts with friends as we knew these times were ending. School wasn't the best of times, but this song brings back good memories.

Amazing question! Thanks to this post, I've been listening to music I haven't listened to in a while 🎧 🎶

When I was a kid (about 11 years old), daily internet access was not very easy or common where I lived, so I spent most of my school-off afternoons in front of a TV watching music videos on VH1, MTV, and a local TV channel called Canal 13. 

There, I discovered a lot of new bands and was also able to expand my musical taste to so many genres that I didn't know of.

The first song/music video I remember watching a lot in those days was "Chop Suey!"  by  System of a Down (because thanks to it, System of a Down became one of my favorite bands ever, and I kind of learned English with their music too, so it's a very important song for me). Also, "Aerials", from the same band, was a music video that got played a lot at that time.

Another music video I used to watch frequently at that time was The Chemical Brothers' "The Salmon Dance", which is a song I still love ⭐

Finally, a music video that got played a lot on Canal 13 (the local TV channel) was also linked to my early love for films and the time I started discovering Latin American music artists and movies. It is the song "Me Van a Matar" by the Mexican artist Julieta Venegas.

Thrift Shop - Macklemore

As corny as it sounds, this was in spring 2013. i was just about to graduate from elementry school and go to high school in a few months. I didnt realize how much my life would change in terms of social life, personal life and a test of how much i put myself through so much for so little even though i didnt realize how much ive been though. I was on a camping trip with my class for a week and that was one of the last times i felt comfortable and happy because i was happy to get away from the place i was in and it let me have a sense of belonging. Anyways, while we doing this camping trip, there wasnt any cell service while driving to the camping spot which took more then 5 hours, so there wasn't cell service and only sat radio was possible to connect too. The whole drive, we heard thrift shop playing and that became the only song anyone recognized after hearing it for the 500th time. Mind you this was the time the ipod 5th gen was popular. That was one of the last times i truly seen everyone i knew growing up before we were in high school and i didnt contact them again. Nowadays i just wonder how life went from chill to never seeing these ppl again cause everyone lives their own lives. I feel like life isnt gonna feel better then that. I feel lost sometimes till i hear a song from 2013.

Many people think that love is easy. Well, their wrong. Sure, for some people it might come more naturally but for others it usually has its challenges. Because nothing hurts more than when you love someone more than anything, but they decide that they don't love you. I was in a relationship up until not long ago and it was many things but let me tell you easy was not one of them. Some people just don't understand love. (Mainly Girls.)

The lyrics in this song describe how it might feel for some people after a breakup or something along those lines. The lyrics apply to my life a lot but listening to the song helped me get through those times and I hope it can help anyone who's willing to listen to it as well. But it's also just a really good song in general. I also think that OneRepublic is one of the best bands of all time. Say yes in the comments if you agree.
