Question of the Week: What's your favourite way to listen to music?

Question of the Week: What's your favourite way to listen to music?

Happy Friday everyone!! Time for another Question of the Week 😊

We've asked before about favourite bands/artists and favourite tracks. What about the way of listening to music? 🎧🎤
Maybe it's live at a festival among friends? Or maybe using your speakers at home, mostly listening to the music in the background? Or maybe you prefer putting your noise-canceling headphones on?

Tell us, What is your favourite way to listen to music?

Interesting question @RebeckaL

I'm something of an introvert, there's nothing I like more than being somewhere alone while listening to my music.

I do share a lot of songs with my friends on a daily though 😂,told them it's automatic subscription for being in my chats.

I listen on headphones, almost always, noise cancelling ones. I believe in order to get a real nice listening experience,it has to be with a pair of good ones. For example, there's sounds which are meant for your left ear and those for your right one.

So yeah that's that, being alone while listening to music on headphones.

Have a great weekend 🌹

I like when Question Of The Week is related to Music... 🙂

First of all, I would say that whatever the way I listen to music it's always very LOUD. After, it depends circumstances and time of the day.

Living, even in a small building, means you are not alone around. So when people are supposed to sleep and I am not, I listen from my computer to my Bluetooth Sony headphones wh-1000xm3 or from my external soundcard to my wired headphones Beyer DT 990 PRO.

When I can make more 'noise', for discovering new music, I listen from my computer to a DENON AV through a High Definition streaming ADVANCE WTX-1100 bluetooth compatible receiver. My Denon being connected to High Quality ELIPSON Speakers.

However, what I prefer is to listen my favourite all time albums, on their vinyl version, with a TEAC turntable connected to my Denon AV through a pre-amp Cambridge Audio 651 P.

Am I a "maniac" of sound ? ... Who knows... 🤣

Great question, @RebeckaL!

My favorite way of listening to music is through my Edifier R1850DB bluetooth speakers. They’re not super high-tech speakers, but I think that music sounds great from them and I like how the sound fills the room, almost like being at a concert in a small venue. Speaking of which, I like concerts as well and the idea of supporting bands that way, but actually prefer listening to Spotify through speakers (or headphones) because I can choose exactly which songs to hear (whereas at a concert, the band might play songs of theirs that aren’t my favorites).

I don’t usually listen through my speakers, because similarly to @Soundofus, I don’t want to bother other people around me with the noise. Only on occasions when I have the windows shut and I’m home alone do I sometimes listen this way (same goes for playing electric guitar through an amp).

So, in most cases I listen to music using my Audio-Technica ATH-M50x bluetooth headphones or Audio-Technica ATH-M40x corded headphones. These also aren’t very expensive, but I think music sounds great from them as well.

I thought it would also be good to mention that I haven’t tried better-sounding headphones or speakers, though; there are probably lots of higher-quality equipment that could improve the audio quality, but my budget is usually limited and I've been happy with how music sounds with these particular headphones and speakers.

Cheers!

My favorite way to listen to music, beside listening to it, at a concert is while I'm riding my bike. It's great, when what I'm listening to fits the mood of the moment. I have my biker playlists, but sometimes, when I would go to work in the early morning, I would listen to Phillip Glass. I also use my riding time, to check out my "Discover Weekly" and "Release Radar" playlists. For now, I use my earbuds (that I can hear through, for traffic and the engine), which is like being in my own little world. It'll be nice, when I can go on longer rides, so I can also check out playlists that I've followed.

Follow me

I'm currently reading Tom Gioia's history of jazz. Every so often I check the tracks he mentions, which brings the whole thing to life.

My preferred casual listening is simply my airpod pros for utility purposes. I like being able to move around/not worry about chords and the noise cancelation is pretty important for the experience; it allows you to be in your own zone, especially if you're at work and don't want any distractions.

For FUN listening, I very much like the whole body experience of with quality speakers/subs and having the right lighting. Sometimes I'll come home at night and blast something with a good rhythm that I can feel through my entire body, and I'm talking the bass vibrations. I'll dance alone and don't care whos watching.

Another favorite experience is entirely dependent on atmosphere and venue; for example, my favourite performance was Tiesto in Las Vegas at the Hakkasan. The lights, sounds, and energy of that place is unmatched in my limited experience. It's all about feeling the music.

Due to my life as a student, my preferred way to listen to music is definitely with my noise-cancelling earphones with the volume loud enough to almost burst my ear drum.

But I also love to listen to loud music in my car while I'm driving through the highway or back roads, especially at night or when the weather allows me roll my windows down! XD

I love listening to podcasts with my airpods as I walk along the nearby creek path.

Hey!

Def with headphones and talking a long walk 😍

It's lovely to read all your answers and hear about all the different ways we listen to music 🎶

Of course my favorite way to listen to music doesn't involve Spotify at all: experiencing it live.  I go to a LOT of concerts.  I'm going to one tonight and two or three more at the end of the month 🙂

Tinnitus is real.

I use Spotify at work more than anywhere else; to the tune of 60,000 hours per year.  When I work from the office (which is most times) I use a pair of noise-cancelling headphones with built-in microphones, because I have to join Zoom meetings often.  When I work from home, I just let the speakers on my desk do their job.

I listen to "records" from start to finish.  I don't really like that we're returning to "singles culture."

My favorite way of listening to music is to be sitting at my desk and using the Spotify desktop app to listen through headphones or speakers.

Other ways:

  • Living room while relaxing on the couch
  • In the kitchen
  • Waterproof Bluetooth speaker in the shower
  • Listening while sleeping (for a better sleep)
  • In the car while on the go (Bluetooth) sometimes with the Spotify Car Thing device and sometimes without Car Thing
  • Going to concerts (recently have been wearing earplugs that reduce the decibel volume by 18-20 and it helps)

Music Lover Sebasty hears sounds that don't exist.
(joking, my earnoise is linked to stress and not curing out my colds properly during high school)
Wear earplugs to concerts!!!

Anyway, I'm at home majority of time, so I have wifi all the time.
I love listening to music on speakers during the day, the room-filling sound feels incredible. I would love to upgrade to a setup that includes a 10'' sub for the most accurate bass response, but that's a future plan.

For late evenings and nighttime I go to my beloved AKG k712 headphones. Massive cans with pillow-like earpads, cabled (I use the coiled one because it's shorter than the 3 meter orange one..) and they sound incredible. All the details my speakers fail to show will be heard through these.

I'm avoiding in-ears for now because of slight earwax-related issues, plus those I have don't feel comfortable enough for using longer than 10 minutes.

I love to listen to music on max volume with speakers, but the way that I listen to music generally is with earphones, because in general, I don't have time to listen to music with speakers. Generally, music is music anywhere I listen to it. Finally, my favorite way to listen to music is at home when I'm alone.

HomePod mini, you should get onto support for AirPlay 2! Music glitches out sometimes.

I have to listen using headphones after my wife has gone to bed as she hates music, very sad, basically she is jealous of my love for it.  I listen to emotional stuff, like Celine Dion, Think Twice and follow the lyrics.  Anything with good lyrics basically, Cohen, Dylan, Swift.

Yes, tinnitus is real, I suffer from it when in quiet surroundings.  I am close to 70 now and my hearing is suffering, NHS hearing aids are awful, waste of time, AirPods are wonderful and my newly acquired HomePod Minis are great, sited about a metre from each ear.

As for concerts, I haven't been to many but one I remember leaving because of the volume, far too  loud, if you have to wear plugs there isn't much point in going anyway, not for the sound at least.

I wouldn't say wearing earplugs would make concerts pointless. There are earplugs made specially for music in mind, they reduce the volume by a good 20-30dB and they're very good at shielding your ears from that slicing sibilant high-end that I'm personally quite sensitive of.

Good earplugs will improve audio quality a lot and save you from feeling underwater for the next day or two.
There are also artists that turn it to obscene levels where earplugs are an absolute must. That resulting bass DESTROYS you!

In addition to whatever i've said in the past, listening to music in absolute darkness (such as in bed) is such an incredible experience. I can do that with headphones only, but imagine the pleasure with proper speaker setup...... 🤤
