READ if you’re serious…

(…about growing in your music career)

I have been on the community site for the shortest time. To me, many of these threads seem like a bad Facebook group.

Let me explain…

There are many posts here asking others to share their playlist, but are they really working together to promote others or just receive some likes and replies?

This is a very disingenuous method of connecting with others online in my opinion. It may have worked in the past, but think about it… if a playlist has 30 songs, let’s say, and people share 3 playlists… what are the chances that someone goes through the hours of music and comes back with honest feedback? What are the chances of someone genuinely loving your music or playlist?

I love apps like Clubhouse where you can speak directly to others. I’m not sure what happened to Spotify’s version of this app, but it was pretty great.

It is sad that many don’t have patience to engage and actually get to know someone and their art. If you’re serious in growing in your music career or curator role, networking and building relationships that are meaningful and wholesome will always prevail.

Has anyone found other ways to grow on these forums?

Has anyone felt the same?

Hey @yetitears

I've got to agree. It seems quite hopeless right now for the new artist to break through. I'm also quite certain dropping your single or two in a playlist won't help much - who's gonna listen through hours of content? It takes a bit of a special mindset to dive into music one might not like, with no recognisable names. I think most listeners look for names they already know.

I think a better way to engage at least some kind of interest is an introductory post. A short read of who this artist is, what kind of music they make, maybe including influences and stuff, and then introducing a song, maybe the newest or one they're most proud of. It's probably quite difficult to write for the artist themselves (i for one hate advertising myself 😅), easier to write by someone who's a listener with a knack for writing.
Whatever it is, the song/playlist must have something more added to it than "hey listen/share to my new thing!"

I don't make music myself, and i haven't bothered to advertise my art more professionally. I'm speaking as a listener looking for potentially interesting music. There are certain ways that have captivated me to willingly sit through music i do not like, and enjoy myself whilst at it, but i don't know if they would be applicable for everyone and in this board especially.

Hey again @yetitears - good to see you again 😄

You've raised some great points here! I agree, some areas in Chat can be a pretty overwhelming with not much meaningful engagement.

We haven't posted much in the forum here about this. However, we recently did some changes like introducing labels (to find content more easily) and visually updating how Chat looks. But it doesn't end there! This is something we're working on improving with the help of our Stars like @Sebasty and passionate Community users like you! If you do have any ideas or other feedback to improve things, keep them coming 🙂

PS. I think you might mean Greenroom! If you haven't tried checking it out, our Star @Luan wrote a pretty nice overview of the app in this blog.
