403 error currently-playing

When using authorization code flow on my own account i have no problems getting the correct response for the currently playing song. If i try to do it for somebody else i successfully get past the authorization, ie: i request permissions, get the access code, use the code to get access token and refresh token and use the refresh token to get a new access token successfully. The problem comes when I make a call to the web API, I instantly get "<Response [403]>" with nothing else in the body of the response. Literally just changing the refresh token to mine works, but none of the other 4 people's refresh tokens, that i have asked to try, work.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am on a free account, which i assume after having read a kind-of similar post is the problem in this case?

If that is the case please consider putting it in the Prerequisites on your API documentation/guide pages
