My Question or Issue

I'm developing a real-time, interactive application that will have music/audio visualizations integrated, and while for proof-of-concept/MVP and testing phases I am utilizing static music files (mp3, wav, ogg, etc), I eventually want to implement Spotify support using the API.

One of the scenarios that played out in planning was advertising, and how to elegantly handle this, for those users who don't have premium plans and such. Rather than an abrupt break into advertising, I was hoping there was a way to look ahead at when an advert block would be played, and gather all the data about that. The dream goal would be to actually have some level of control of when adverts played, but I'm not leaning on that.

My concept is to change the visualizations and other elements of the application to reflect advertising, and if certain data points are exposed, changing things such as colors and stylings of visual elements to have a certain level of parity with the advertising content.

I took a cursory glance at the API docs, and quickly realized this might not be the easiest specific feature lane to ride along. The Ads API seemed more directed at advertisers. I certainly need to dig deeper and do a lot more research, but I wanted to kick off a dialogue here now rather than later, in the hopes that some gurus with the APIs would be familiar with this type of use-case and potential existing workflows.

Any help or general pointing in the right direction would be very appreciated! Once I've got the prototype in a less embarrassing state, I'll be sharing what I'm working on with the community here. I'm sure people will dig it... even though it's not specifically a "Spotify thing", as an engineering nerd and music lover, I can see the allure of showcasing a neat use of Spotify out in the wild.
