I am currently developing a mobile application that includes a short video (reels-style) creation feature, similar to platforms like Instagram. As part of this feature, I am exploring options to allow users to browse and select songs to use as background audio in their videos.

I wanted to inquire whether Spotify provides any APIs, SDKs, or services that would allow developers to:

• Access and display a list of available songs within an app

• Allow users to select a song

• Use that song as background audio while creating and saving a video within the app

Additionally, I would like to understand:

• Whether such usage is permitted under Spotify’s developer policies

• Any licensing requirements or restrictions related to using Spotify’s music in user-generated video content

• Whether playback is limited to streaming via Spotify only, or if embedding audio into media is supported

If this use case is not supported, I would appreciate any guidance on compliant alternatives or recommended approaches.

Spotify doesn’t allow SDA’s to use music together with videos. This is explained in point 6 of the “Some prohibited applications” section in the Developer Policy.
Also, apps like Instagram use their own music library and licenses, which is why things work differently there.
