Intermittent Spotify Embed 504 ("upstream request timeout") for some track IDs in Chrome

Intermittent Spotify Embed 504 ("upstream request timeout") for some track IDs in Chrome

I'm seeing an intermittent issue with Spotify embeds and I'm trying to determine whether this is a known Spotify issue.

Observed behavior:

- Some Spotify embed track URLs load normally.
- Other Spotify embed track URLs return:
"504 upstream request timeout"
- This happens when opening the embed URL directly, not just inside my website.

Examples:

- Firefox: works
- Edge: works
- Chrome Incognito: works
- Normal Chrome: some track IDs work, some return 504.

The important observation is that, within the same Chrome session, one track can load successfully while another track immediately returns a 504.

The failing URL is opened directly as:

https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/{track_id}

No proxy is involved.

Has anyone else seen intermittent 504 errors from Spotify's embed service for specific track IDs?

If so, has Spotify acknowledged an issue or is there any recommended workaround?

I’m experiencing the same issue when I’m logged into Spotify in my browser.

In my case, none of the suggested fixes seem to work. The embed won't load, even on open.spotify.com.

What's strange is that the issue is intermittent. Everything was working fine for a few hours today, but now it's completely broken again. Interestingly, the same embedded content works perfectly in the Spotify desktop app.

I also noticed that everything works fine in an incognito/private browsing window, so it seems to be related to my browser profile, cookies, or cached data.

Has anyone found a solution or can help us figure out what's causing this?

I’m seeing a very similar issue with Spotify podcast episode embed URLs.

The behavior I’m seeing is inconsistent:

  • Embed URLs fail with a “504 upstream request timeout” error.

  • The failure happens even when opening the embed URL directly in the browser, not only when embedded in my application.

  • The failure happens when I am logged in to Spotify from the browser.

Has anyone else encountered Spotify embed URLs failing with 504 errors for specific IDs? Has Spotify confirmed any issue with the embed service, or is there a known workaround (cache/session reset, URL format change, API alternative, etc.)?
