Please continue supporting iOS/Android streaming SDKs

We have been using those SDKs since they became available.

Our particular app (Amazing Slow Downer) lets the user play music more slowly, since a couple of years ago also songs from Spotify. The "ios-streaming-sdk" is a beautifully designed framework that lets an audio developer do practically everything needed.
In our case it makes it possible to access the raw audio samples and this way process the sound and then playback the processed audio using our regular audio playback engine. With your new SDK this is not possible. It might be that the "ios-streaming-sdk" is more difficult to use for an average developer but that also makes it more powerful.

We have many users that uses Spotify. Many users switch from other streaming services such as "Apple Music", Tidal, Amazon Music etc to Spotify just to be able to slow down streaming music in real time.

We believe our app gives Spotify many many new subscribers, so many that it would actually pay off for Spotify to maintain the "ios-streaming-sdk".

We only use "playlist" functions and after fixing a couple of bugs in the "metadata framework" available on github, everything works 100%. Although there are certainly some bugs in the “ios-streaming-sdk”, they are very few and don’t affect our app.

We also have an Android version of our app that uses your Android streaming SDK and it also works very good.

We believe Spotify will loose thousands of users, so many that the minimal cost Spotify need to spend on maintenance will pay off manifold.

Since our app also supports playback and slowing down of streaming Apple Music, many of our users will probably switch from subscribing to Spotify to subscribing to Apple Music.

You write:

"After September 1st, important functionality in the streaming SDKs will stop working."
Exactly what does that mean? What part of the SDK will continue to work?

Please continue supporting iOS/Android streaming SDKs!

My Question or IssueI am curious about your reasoning behind shutting off usage for Apps like Amazing Slow Downer.  I am a professional musician and teacher and use this App in conjunction with Spotify on a near daily basis.  If this ability is cut off, it is likely I will discontinue using Spotify.  I need this specific feature and without this ability, the need for a premium Spotify subscription is significantly diminished.  I hope that you will reconsider this move as it will affect me personally and surely many other teachers and educators will need to find another way to use Amazing Slow Downers incredible learning and teaching tools.  Thank you and I look forward to your reply.  Tack.  Bara Bra.

I use the Amazing Slow Downer app almost every day as a tool to learn fiddle and banjo.  Slowing down tunes to play along with has been so helpful!  It would be a real tragedy to destroy this functionality and I hope spotify will reconsider.  I will likely cancel my premium account if this change goes through.

Spotify- Please continue supporting use of ASD app.

Add me to the growing chorus of working musicians who use ASD and Spotify everyday and would like to see Spotify reconsider their decision. If they go forward with breaking the link with third party apps like Amazing Slow Downer I see no reason to continue my premium Spotify subscription - there will be other ways to continue to use ASD and Spotify can go pound sand…

Rofi Nilsson said it best….

”We believe Spotify will loose thousands of users, so many that the minimal cost Spotify need to spend on maintenance will pay off manifold.

Since our app also supports playback and slowing down of streaming Apple Music, many of our users will probably switch from subscribing to Spotify to subscribing to Apple Music.”

If this goes through as planned on Sept 1 it’s goodbye Spotify.

Please reconsider this decision!
Musicians and researchers like me use ASD with Spotify to get a deeper understanding of what the great masters played, learn songs, practice along, etc. It is vital for exploration of genres where scores don't exist, such as Jazz or Argentine Tango. Transcribing is a long established practice when learning these genres and ASD+Spotify has been a great facilitator of education. Re-enabling the integration would be good for the music and for Spotify business. The feature is a requirement for me and many others here and I would be moving to another platform if it goes way.

I’m with you here. I teach at a local junior college and use Spotify with my students. Many of them get Spotify so they can get playlists we can use together. Kind of a weird move.

As a music teacher whom has been using amazing slow downer for 15 years+ and Spotify since the beginning, I want Spotify to know that I will switch to Apple Music and bring all of my students with me if this goes through.

Hi there,

I am also a musician and Spotify premium user. Please reconsider allowing the ASD app to be used in conjunction with Spotify. The two apps together have enabled me to continue being an effective teacher since I use both apps all the time. Thank you!

im a young jazz guitarist in highschool. I use this app everyday to learn and transcribe solos, chord changes, and melodies. being able to slow down the recording is extremely helpful and i would love to continue to be able to do this. spotify please please please continue to let us use this app to slow down recording it would be a huge help to the music community and musicians everywhere!!!

playback of spotify content for slowing down music being blocked, will be a huge roadblock for many musicians using apps such as the amazing slow downer, and will result in thousands of musicians switching to alternative streaming sites that will allow such actions. "The Amazing Slow Downer" is a great example, one better than remote alternatives and other playback. It is a tool used by thousands of musicians, would be very upsetting to see suggestions ignored andspotifycontinuing forward with the rule

As a jazz guitarist who’s started to learn solos, this is a kick right where it hurts.

Along with others, I’ll consider switching platforms if this is not reversed. I rely upon this app, along with Spotify to learn songs for both jazz purposes and Worship purposes.

VERY disappointed 😔

For me as a music student it is very helpful and fun to slow down the music on Spotify. It makes Spotify even more valuable for me and so many other amateur musicians. Now that this option seems te be stopping, I am forced to change to Apple Music. All the same options and music, and I still can keep the added value of slowing down music......I don't think that Spotify is in the market of loosing customers so I hope that you will reconsider and that this option will stay available.

I use this to practice guitar. If this stops on 9/1, I will be looking for a music source to replace Spotify.

I am an ASD daily user and rely heavily on my Spotify subscription for learning new music. Without the connection to ASD, this subscription is useless to me. Please maintain the functionality necessary for ASD.

The only reason I subscribe to Spotify is the ability to use Amazing Slow Downer.  If that goes, there's not much reason  to keep paying for Spotify any longer.  PLEASE reconsider this decision.  At least let Amazing Slow Downer continue to function.

This is such a crucial tool for musicians learning new music. If this functionality is removed I will have to switch to an alternative music player

This decision on behalf of the Spotify team will be a major loss for musicians across the world if gone through with. Please reconsider saving the SDK for Amazing Slow Downer or I will be forced to shift to a competitor who is willing to support it
