Request for Access to Audio Features for Dynamic Music Integration (Real-Time Gameplay App)

Request for Access to Audio Features for Dynamic Music Integration (Real-Time Gameplay App)

Hi Spotify Dev Team,

I’m Stefan, a developer building a non-commercial rhythm-based rowing game app called RowBeats, which dynamically syncs rowing strokes to music. The app creates a unique experience by aligning stroke timing and effort to musical tempo in real time — something only possible with accurate and timely access to tempo and related audio features.

I understand there have been recent changes to the Web API that restrict new apps from accessing endpoints like /audio-features, which my app depends on for core functionality.

My app is:
• Non-commercial (currently in development).
• Designed to work exclusively within Spotify’s ecosystem.
• Built to encourage engagement with Spotify Premium through integrated playback.

I’m reaching out to request continued access to /audio-features/{id} or any available method to programmatically retrieve the tempo (BPM) of the currently playing track. I’m happy to comply with any terms, scopes, or data usage limitations necessary to make this possible.

If there’s a path forward — via formal request, verification, or additional review — I’d be grateful for guidance.

Thank you for your time and consideration,
Stefan

I'm in the same position. Just want to be able to run an app while I'm doing dance practice with my dance partner so we can see the tempo of the current and upcoming song we will practice to. Spotify we would appreciate if you would re-enable access for people like us.

It's been tough having to go around it. I assume this was a measure in the latest AI-driven world to prevent further machine learning for whatever reason. But it does screw up us humans.
