My Question or Issue:
Dear Spotify Team,
I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share an idea that I believe could significantly enhance Spotify and potentially revolutionize the way people engage with music and social media.
Currently, we have music apps and social media apps, but none truly combine both experiences. Spotify is in a unique position to merge these worlds and become the leading platform for both music and social interaction. Below are a few features that could help achieve this:
Follow Notifications
Users receive notifications when someone follows them. This encourages engagement and curiosity about who is interacting with their profile.
Mobile Friend Activity
Make “Friend Activity” visible on mobile devices, not just on desktop. This would encourage people to open the app more often to see what their friends are listening to, similar to how Instagram or other social apps drive engagement.
Playlist Engagement
Allow users to see who saves or likes their playlists. This creates a stronger sense of community and recognition for curating playlists.
Commenting on Listening Activity
Introduce a way to comment or react to what others are listening to, similar to replying to a story. This doesn’t always have to be words; it could be a “like” or other quick interaction. The idea is to make people feel less alone on the platform and find creative ways to connect people through music.
In-App Messaging for Music & Playlists
Add a messaging feature within Spotify itself to share songs and playlists directly without leaving the app.
Public Top Tracks
Allow users’ top tracks to be visible to others, not just themselves. This would make profiles more dynamic and engaging, much like a social media presence.
I strongly believe these features would increase engagement, create a more social experience around music, and position Spotify not just as a music platform, but as a global hub for music-centered social interaction. Just like at the end of the year we have the opportunity to share our top tracks, we should have that excitement all year round, and without having to have our discussion via other social media apps.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this idea.
Best regards,
