Already paying premium via debit card, but now I have a spotify gift card that I want to use.

Already paying premium via debit card, but now I have a spotify gift card that I want to use.

So I'm currently paying for premium via card, but I recently recieved a spotify gift card that I want to use. Do I have to cancel premium in order to use my gift card?

My Question or Issue

I want to use my spotify giftcard, but I'm currently a premium member. How can I switch payment options. I tried putting in my code for the gift card but it's saying that it's invaild. Is that because I'm a current premium member? Do I have to cancel my premium in order to avail the giftcard? Please help, ya boi want some free spotify. Thanks y'all!

Can you please let me know the exact error message that you're seeing when you try to redeem your Gift Card at https://spotify.com/redeem?

This is what it says, "Unfortunately this Premium code does not seem to be valid. Try again or contact customer service" Does this mean that I can't use the gift card if I have a premium account already?

That error message doesn't have anything to do with your current account status 🙂

 

Let’s try a few things:

  • Make sure you're entering the code correctly. For example: try 0 (zero) instead of O, and I instead of l (lower case L).
  • Check the code hasn’t already been redeemed. You can check this on your account page. You can also check to see if you have any other accounts you might have applied it to.  
  • Check the country registered to your account is the same as where the gift card was purchased. 
  • If you bought your gift card from a store, it might not have been activated when purchased. Please return to the store and ask them to activate it.

The gift card given to me was purchased in another state. Essentially not purchased in the state I am living in. How would I fix that if it wasn't activated by the cashier? 

I'd recommend reaching out to Support about this. You can contact them via one of the below ways:

If you get an automated reply email telling you to check the Knowledgebase or the Spotify Community, you need to reply back to it, even if it's from a no-reply address. Spotify Support usually replies within 24-48 hours.

Got a Spotify gift card? Somebody likes you!

Just a quick reminder:

  • Gift cards are valid for 12 months from date of purchase.
  • They're not redeemable in conjunction with other discounts or promotions, such as Premium for Family, student discount, or trial offers.
  • Spotify gift cards can only be redeemed on Spotify accounts registered in the same country where they were purchased.
  • Other Terms and Conditions may apply.

So make sure you are eligible for redeeming the giftcard!

As for redeeming it, no, you don't have to cancel your curent spotify premium.

Here is how to redeem it:

  1. Log in to spotify.com/redeem
  2. Enter the PIN on the back of the card, or the code from your receipt.
  3. Click Redeem.

The gift card is applied to your subscription payments starting on your next payment date. Your payments continue normally after the full gift card amount is spent.

Here is some extra info if your gift card not working?

If you tried to redeem your gift card but it’s not working, let’s try a few things:

  • Check that the country registered to your account is the same as where the gift card was purchased.
    Tip: Check out our guide to changing your country settings.
  • Make sure you enter the code correctly. For example: try 0 (zero) instead of O, and I instead of l (lower case L). If your code has been damaged and you can no longer read it, please contact our payments team.
  • If you bought your gift card from a store, it might not have been activated when purchased. Please return to the store and ask them to activate it.
  • Check the code hasn’t already been redeemed. You can check this on your account page. You can also check to see if you have any other accounts you might have applied it to.
  • Codes are not redeemable for Premium for Family or in conjunction with other discounts and promotions.
