Audio books locked on Student Premium

My Question or Issue

I signed up for a 3 month trial and then Premium account on May 1st. I was able to listen to audiobooks with no issues. Then I verified as a student today and switched to Premium Student plan and all of a sudden I can't access any of the audio books without buying them.

My listening time is about 2 hours so it's not like i hit the limit. And this happened right after I switched to Student Premium so not sure why everything was locked.

Sorry to hear that. This is expected because you are on the Premium Student plan. This plan does not include free Audiobook listening time. The only plans that are eligible for the listening time are Premium Individual, Premium Family, and Duo (plan managers only).

I wanted to share my perspective on why this decision feels counter-intuitive, especially when considering the needs of students.

As a student, I find audiobooks to be an invaluable resource for both personal and academic growth. They provide a flexible and accessible way to engage with literature, research materials, and educational content—something many students would greatly benefit from given our busy schedules. By excluding audiobooks from the Premium Student plan, Spotify is potentially missing an opportunity to further support students’ learning and development.

While I understand there are different pricing models for various features, students are often those who would make the most use of such a service. Including even a limited amount of audiobook listening time in the Student plan could enhance its value significantly and align Spotify more closely with the needs of this demographic.

I appreciate Spotify’s continuous efforts to improve, and I hope the feedback provided here is taken into consideration as the platform evolves
