Didn't want my sub to renew, but it automatically did

Hi,

Is there any way I can get a refund on an automatic sub ?
I didn't like my experience with spotify (radios didn't make sense, for example), and my sub still renewed itself automatically... Why do we not receive a mail asking if we want to keep premium ?? Moreover I'm a student and it didn't ask me, just went on to the $10 offer.
Should I close my account and contest the transaction on paypal ?
