Is Premium Duo or Student or Family also getting lossless media quality?

My Question or Issue

I got the Lossless interstitial welcome modal on Android but wasn't ready to turn it on then. Got to my Windows desktop app (updated 9/11/2025) which shows a black interstitial modal with the word Error on the top left that self-dismissed in a couple seconds. I went to the settings and couldn't find the lossless quality where the announcement suggested it should be. I went to the Android app's settings and also couldn't find the lossless option per the article and interstitial modal. I opted to play a podcast to my Sonos device, then I installed the Mac app and wasn't presented with the interstitial modal, and again saw only options for automatic, low, normal, high, very high streaming audio quality.

So:

  1. Does Premium Duo not count as Premium? If so why did I get the Lossless now available modal?
  2. Or does trying on the Windows App and getting an error for the modal remove me from having the option with my account?
  3. Does streaming to a Sonos device remove the option?
  4. Or none of the above? As In there's some bug happening now.
  5. Will the web player have the option ever?

Hey @4rk, thanks for reaching out to the Community!

Lossless audio quality may be available to you if you’re using any type of Premium subscription and your device is supported through Spotify Connect. There’s more information about getting started here.

For your reference, there’s also a great article that was made explaining more about how Lossless audio works.

Let me know if you have any more questions or I missed anything.

Thanks, that addresses the first point in the list of questions, 2-4 are all related to me believing that the interstitial lossless announcement meant that my account is now enabled for lossless. It could be that this is not the case generally; in which case the design and wording of the in-app announcement could have been more clearly designed to make that clear. I had searched and read a bunch of the articles about how to enable it, what cases are supported, and such, so I'd seen the articles you'd shared, but I appreciate the effort. For the 5th, web player question, I suppose only Spotify employees might know. E.G. re: the 3rd question about Sonos, they have wording in their announcement that it will be supported, but nothing conclusive about the web player being supported later, nor being off the table for lossless support.

@4rk

Unfortunately, Lossless is currently not supported in the Web Player. Once Lossless rolls out to your account, you can change the setting in the desktop (Windows & Mac) and mobile apps (Android & iOS), and you can listen to Lossless on supported Spotify Connect devices.

List of eligible countries where you can currently listen to Lossless once the rollout is completed (through October):
