Play history in Premium Family

Play history in Premium Family

My Question or Issue

If I accept an invitation to a premium family plan will my play history (pre-invitation) be visible to the initiator of the family plan?

Hi @jeffelli,

Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community!

The Family plan initiator would only be able to manage the billing method and whether you are still on the plan. Your recent listening history that is available to you would not be visible to the plan owner.

However, if the plan owner knows your username and searches for you on Spotify, then they may be able to see your Recently Played Artists on your Spotify profile (if you have the option of “Show my recently played artists” toggled on under Settings -> Social). If you’re interested in joining the Family plan but are concerned about the Family plan owner being able to see your Recently Played Artists, then I would recommend toggling the “Show my recently played artists” option to off.

Let us know if you have any other questions, and have a good day!

So when you have recently listened artists off they are unable to see any recently listened to content?

Hi @notxslaya,

Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community, and welcome!

That’s right; if you have the “Show my recently played artists” option in Settings toggled to off, then even if the Premium Family plan manager searches for and views your profile on Spotify, they wouldn’t be able to see the artists you've been listening to recently in a “Recently played artists” section there.

However, if the Premium Family plan manager decides to follow you on Spotify and they’re using the desktop app, they could use Friend Activity via the desktop app to see the songs you've been listening to (in the case that you have the “Share my listening activity on Spotify” option in Settings toggled to on, and aren't in a Private Session).

If you’re concerned about the Premium Family plan manager following you on Spotify and seeing via Friend Activity which songs you’re listening to, then I would recommend toggling the “Share my listening activity on Spotify” option in Settings to off.

On a related note, if you’re concerned about the Premium Family plan manager searching for your public playlists on Spotify, or finding your Spotify profile and viewing your public playlists there, you can always make your playlists private (following the steps provided in this support article). When you make a playlist private, no one other than you can access it—even if they have a link to it or search for it by name.

You can also add or remove public playlists on your Spotify profile to control which ones appear there, by following these steps.

I hope this helps, and let me know if you have any other questions.

Have a good day!
