Hey @epmariess ,
Thanks for your patience while this was being looked into.
Spotify advertises that a Premium user can listen to music without ad interruptions, which is one of the key benefits of a Premium subscription. However, podcasts for both free and Premium users may include ads, and they can be either host-read endorsements, sponsorships or audio adverts within the podcast track itself.
A special feature is available that can dynamically insert ads within a podcast stream. This can be enabled or disabled by the podcast publishers. The desire here is to provide some added value for those who want to host their podcasts on Spotify.
The teams at Spotify understand that there might be some confusion on the fact that Premium comes with ad free music listening, but doesn't cover podcasts.
Hopefully this explanation provides you with a better understanding of the Premium subscription and the ads that you listened to. Apologies if this was not made sufficiently clear before.
Spotify cares about their users' opinion and they're doing their best to expand on the information sources available to be more transparent. 🙂
Hey there,
Thanks for coming to the Community.
Spotify doesn’t play or include ads that interrupt the music listening experience of Premium subscribers. However, some podcast creators may include third-party advertising, host-read endorsements, or sponsorship messages in their episodes.
Hope this clears things up! 🙂
This was official Spotify advertising playing the same repeat set of ads that interrupted various different podcasts midway through people's sentences. it was defiantly not sponsored content.
Hey @epmariess ,
Thanks for getting back.
I understand your frustration when there are ads in a podcast, however, as mentioned before, this is up to the creators of the podcast.
By the way, it seems like other users have created an idea about this here. I'd suggest that you check it out and leave your vote to support it, so that it would have a better chance of being considered.
Even if an idea is currently set to “Case Closed” you can still give it a thumbs up as Spotidy revisits those ideas on regular intervals. 🙂
You'll also find all the relevant info about the Idea Exchange and how the Community feedback gets implemented here if you'd like to know more about the topic.
Hope this clears things up.
It does appear the ads are coming directly from Spotify tho and not the individual podcasts. You can clearly see in the screenshots the ads are from Spotify's ad-serving platform and the products are even listed next to the show. These should be removed for premium members. I specifically pay for an ad-free service and this goes against that agreement.

Hi, I'm having the same issue. I've paid for spotify premium individual yet I'm still getting ads. I've tried verifying my email, logging out and back in, logging out of all devices, waiting several days (its been about a week or so of waiting and trying), double checking my spotify account online too to make sure I have premium, and it says in my account overview that it's working, but in the app it's as if I haven't paid at all. I've even deleted and reinstalled the app. I've tried cancelling my plan and trying again and it's still not working. This is very frustrating. How do I fix this?
To ensure that we can offer you the best help that we can, could you please create your own thread? Doing so is easy. Simply select the appropriate board here, and then select “Start a Topic.”
Thank you very much!
I'm starting a class action lawsuit against Spotify for this today.
Advertising BY SPOTIFY at the beginning of podcast is not creators insert. I am hearing adverts from SPOTIFY on podcast while subscribed to Premium... please explain
The ads I get is not from the Podcast, its from Spotify itself....
That's what I am hearing too...
I feel your frustration!
I’m getting ads through premium MUSIC - not podcasts. I have wasted way too much time googling and searching through every complicated setting in Spotify without any success at all. It is pretty cut and dry to me. You promote ad free listening with a premium account, it should be exactly that without exceptions. Quality and customer service has gone to **bleep** in this country. Everything over promises and grossly under delivers.
i wish someone with a human brain and heart would reinvent some things that actually make common sense and perform in the way we are told that they will when we pay for them. SUCKS!!!
And by the way, they (Spotify) bleeped “**bleep**” out of my comment but supply extremely explicit music to their subscribers. Are you SERIOUS?!
Same issue here. Ads despite paying NOT for ads.
Lies spread around here will not deter from the truth:
I pay for having an ad-free experience.
My podcasts are INTERRUPTED MID SENTENCE so they can blast ILLEGAL GAMBLING ADS at 600% volume into my ear-drums in an attempt to shatter them.
Spotify defends this heinous malpractice, lies about it and practices false advertizing, namely, stating that the ad-free experience is ad-free when in reality, it's anything BUT that.
