Issue

For the past few days, a version of the album "Bad" by Michael Jackson has been in my library, and I have made numerous attempts on both my phone and laptop to remove it. This version is the version that I have been listening to for a while but I decided to change it to the version connected to Michael Jackson's artist profile.

Once I have removed this version from my library, it reappears about twenty seconds after, then after another twenty seconds later, the second version then appears. I have added links to both of these versions below:

1. This is the version that keeps reappearing in my library after numerous attempts to delete it.

https://open.spotify.com/album/3qfDyhmQ7hnJm0897Q8LsU?si=b05c4c6e952940c3

2. This is the official version connected to Michael Jackson's artist profile (identified with the "(Remastered)" suffix). It appears after the first version has appeared.

What is truly peculiar with this is that although I can remove the first version from my library on my phone and in my desktop app. I can't remove it at all from my library on the Spotify desktop website. I have tried logging out from all of my accounts using the Spotify account page to try and force sync my library to remove the first version from my profile (as recommended by earlier queries with a similar problem to mine) but none of them have worked at all.

Hi there @SaintlyCrown501,

Thanks for reaching out. We'll be glad to help clear this and let you manage your library freely.

When you say that you can't remove it from the website, you mean the web player, correct? And do you mean that removing it doesn't work or that the album doesn't appear there? If it doesn't appear, then most likely you've actually removed it already as the web player has the most direct sync to the servers. This would mean that your other apps aren't syncing correctly, which is why it keeps reappearing. Consider performing full clean reinstalls if you haven't already. Make sure to also log out and then back in twice in a row, as that forces a sync to the servers.

Let us know how it goes.

Hi Joan, thank you for your quick reply! Firstly, yes, I do mean the web player. When I try to remove it from the web player, the 'add to library' symbol works, but the first version of the album isn't removed from my library.

The really weird thing about this is that after I've clicked the "Remove from Your Library" button on the album page and then when I try to right-click the album from my library, the "Add to Your Library" symbol reverts back to the remove symbol immediately.

I've just retried logging out and then back into the web player numerous times with the album "removed", but it hasn't removed it. Another weird thing is that when I remove the album from the web player, then add it back to my library immediately, another version of the album appears instead, but it is, in fact, the same album with an identical URL. I've attached a screenshot of the web player to show exactly what happens. I also tried uninstalling Spotify from all of my devices, and it still didn't work.

Hey @SaintlyCrown501,

Thank you for keeping in contact and for the shared info.

Since this seems to be mainly affected in the Web Player, have you tried on a different browser to see if it makes any difference? It's also worth trying on an incognito/private window or even with a different Wi-Fi connection to see if the issue persists.

If so, we'd recommend turning OFF any VPN you may have active as this affects its proper behavior. Bear also in mind that if you're using a work/school laptop, it may have some restrictions that may cause this album to be not fully removed when using the Web Player.

Lastly, could you remove both versions of the album using your mobile/desktop app without opening the Web Player to see if it gets fully removed?

Hope this helps. We'll be on the lookout for your response.
