My Question or Issue

Spotify allows artists to control crossfading on their albums, but this control inadvertently extends to user-created playlists as well.

If songs in a user-created playlist are ordered the same way as they are in the original album, they will inherit the original album's crossfade settings and override client Crossfade settings.

This only applies to the ordered songs, all other songs will crossfade just fine.

Replication

To reproduce, just enable crossfade, create a playlist, and add songs into the playlist  from an album that has crossfade disabled in the same order as in the album. None of the songs will crossfade into each other.

Demonstrations:

I'm using this album as an example: https://open.spotify.com/album/0gJZnztLrEzc7UWDm55Xdj?si=2ce35687462a4bac

In this playlist (https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1NpUAffNVnLOR4owoBBxHk?si=3ef6028ee77d4661) the songs are ordered the same as they are in the album; none of them will crossfade despite my local Crossfade setting. If the song-order is changed, the changed songs will crossfade into each other.'

In this playlist, (https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7ChdRYQWgxWmpfFtd0CjP3?si=17fddbc39d5d4f8a) an outside song will crossfade into the ordered songs, but they will not crossfade into each other.

Hi @HogPilot,

Welcome to the Community and thank you for posting.

To start, we'd like to explain that the crossfade feature doesn't apply on albums. However, the behavior that is having on playlists is odd.

We were able to replicate the issue with the steps you sent, so we'll go ahead and pass this to the right folks to get this looked into, please send us the app version you're running.

We'll be on the lookout.

Hey there @HogPilot,

Thanks for the info.

We've tried to reproduce this on our end, but Crossfade seems to work fine with the Bug Report playlist. Can you let us know if you've added each individual track to the new playlist or you've made a playlist straight from the album?

@JMCB1, Can you clarify if you're talking about the same crossfade issue as OP or your songs are being skipped, regardless of the crossfade?

Cheers.

@Alex, The tracks were added straight from the album.

Hi folks,

Thank you for keeping an eye on this thread.

@HogPilot, @JMCB1 and to anybody else experiencing this issue, we'll be needing a video recording showing how the issue happens. Please make sure it shows your Crossfade and Gapless settings turned on.

Just attach the video to your next response to us by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. This will help the team in charge keep working on it.

We'll be on the lookout.
