Why does my playlist fail to upload an image for the cover?

Anytime I try to change a playlist cover image, it will say "failed to upload image" and will not save. My connection is at full bars and has perfectly fine speed and lets me play music and everything else perfectly fine.

Hey everyone,

 

Thanks for coming to the Community!

We've noticed a few different steps suggested by other users on the forum, which have fixed the issues with uploading or changing the photo for them. So, should you come across this thread and you're experiencing this issue too, there are a couple of things we can suggest you try:

 

  • Clear cache from the app and then log out/back in again twice in a row - this is to resync the account info.
  • Change the file format - for example give JPEG or PNG a shot.
  • Use another device - try from a different computer or mobile device.
  • Connect to another network/internet - check with 4G/5G & WiFi.
  • Ensure that the photo meets the image guidelines listed on this page.
  • Windows: Try reinstalling the app from a difference download source - from either the Windows Apps store or from the Spotify site.
  • Web Player: Clear cache and cookies, check with a different browser, or use an incognito window.

Should you still have troubles after trying these steps, it's worth having a look at the Ongoing Issues section as well, to see if there's a more current issue which might be causing the behavior you're experiencing.

Hey Mr. Mess Up!

If you are having trouble uploading a new cover image for your Spotify playlist, there are a few things you can try to fix the issue:

  1. Check the image size: Spotify has a size limit for cover images, so make sure that the image you are trying to upload is under 4 MB in size and meets the other image requirements.

  2. Clear your browser cache: Sometimes browser cache can interfere with uploading images. Clear your browser cache and try again.

  3. Try a different browser: Switch to a different browser and try uploading the image again.

  4. Check your internet connection: Even if your connection appears to be working fine, a weak or inconsistent connection can cause issues with uploading images. Try restarting your router or connecting to a different network.

Unfortunately, the solutions you've highlighted were unable to fix the problem, but thank you very much anyway for trying to resolve this

I hit edit and change Image and nothing happens it doesn’t load it doesn’t let me pick a picture nothing happens it goes far I wick indicated I clicked it but that’s it

Sorry for the late reply, I too had this problem, I was on desktop and was encountering the same exact problem, how I fixed it was making sure my file was a jpeg file, which it was not, it was webp, if you still have this problem maybe try checking the file type and using a converter online

If webp is becoming more common on the web, online tools really ought to account for them, spotify included!

I am trying to change the album cover image of a playlist I created.

 

When I try to upload an AI generated image, Spotify rejects it with this error message:

 

Failed to upload image. Please try again.
