Created Playlists Default to Public with "Make Public" Option Turn Off

My Question or Issue

I use Spotify on my Android devices and Windows 10 computers. I've noticed all of my created playlists are public by default even with the "Make my new playlists public" option in Settings disabled. I had to manually make my playlists private. The Spotify application on all of my devices is up to date. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could help me find out what was wrong.

Hey @DS_Griff,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community!

All new playlists are made public by default and the user has to manually set them to private. The "Make my new playlists public" option on the desktop app actually has to do with your playlists' visibility on your profile: if the option is toggled on, all new playlists will automatically be added to your profile, so that when someone opens your profile on Spotify, they'd show up. If the option is disabled - they wouldn't. The playlists will, however, remain public unless you manually set them to private, regardless of whether the "Make my new playlists public" option is toggled on or off.

We get how this can be confusing and we're working on improving this in an upcoming update, so stay tuned.

Hope this clears things up. The Community is always here if there's anything else you need assistance with.

Cheers!

My Question or Issue

Even though I've got the "Make my new playlists public" option switched off in settings, when creating a new playlist they are public by default. Can confirm by looking above the playlist name on the playlist page or by right-clicking the playlist name and seeing the option "make private". Can share a video privately of the issue.

If this is intended behaviour, can the option in settings be removed as it is currently redundant.

Please change this. It is ridiculous that playlists remain public by default EVEN AFTER toggling off playlist sharing. I do not want and should not have to manually change each playlist to private after expressing a desire for those playlists to not be public in the first place. Huge flaw in your UX
