How am I supposed to discover New music if you make me pick a genre. wth I want To discover new music from all possible genres now I only get 1 genres out of the 4 it lets me pick from. wth! Maybe it was going off all the genres that were in my library before but that made it diverse now its Sucks Thank you for that.
I picked the wrong genre and now I'm stuck listening something I don't want; I hate it!
With the recent update prompting you to select up to 5 genres for your discover weekly, I feel like much of the magic is gone from the feature.
For one, there's already so much on the app that allows you to explore within a genre. Your daily playlists have a general theme within them and are often genre-based. Your release radar picks new songs from artists you already like. Plus, you can just search for one of thousands of playlists for certain genres. This change to the discover weekly seems to rob it of its niche and instead make it overlap with so many existing features.
The old discover weekly was fun. Sometimes I'd get music outside of my comfort zone that I thought was absolutely horrible. But other times I'd be tossed down a rabbit hole of a sub genre that I'd never heard of and end up absolutely adoring. Please allow for us to continue to experience that in one way or another.
Ok stop testing it enable for everyone because for now Discovery Playlist is a joke. I can't keep receiving suggestions for reggae music AND I HATE REGGAE
I absolutely abhor the new Discover Weekly Spotify update. I want the old one back. I don’t want to have to go back and forth the different music styles. I want them all in one playlist. No need to press “pop”, “rock” etc. why did they do it? Do you hate it too?
I absolutely abhor the new Discover Weekly Spotify update. I want the old one back. I don’t want to have to go back and forth the different music styles. I want them all in one playlist. No need to press “pop”, “rock” etc. why did you have to overcomplicate it? I don’t want to discover JUST pop, JUST hip hop. I want the old potpourri back
I don't want to be forced to select a genres, just play a mix.
Hey folks,
Thanks for reaching out and sharing your feedback about the new look of the Discover Weekly playlist. We've moved your posts to the Help section as they better fit here.
Note that the current genre filtering options are optional, so you don't need to select any of them to keep enjoying your playlist in full (just press Dismiss when prompted to choose one). If you've already selected one, you can always tap on it a second time within the playlist filtering options, which will remove the active filter and display all songs.
If you're seeing a different experience, please let us know in more detail and provide a few screenshots or a short video of how things appear on your end, so we can take a closer look.
Cheers!
I completely agree. Spotify please bring back the old discover weekly! Begging! I loved my simple solid playlist of a mix of many genres. Instead it's too busy with too many songs while also making it less variety due to having to choose a single genre per playlist. This is breaking my heart, I looked forward to my discover weekly every week for the past 5 years, no joke.
For years I've been listening to the various and wonderful genres that Discover Weekly has thrown at me. Now all I can do is select out of a mandatory list of a few genres. How can I revert back to the old way (i.e. various genres mixed every week)?
so how/where do you press 'dismiss" (on the app)?
Hey @Merceremk and @fredvandertang,
Thanks for your replies.
@Merceremk, appreciate your feedback here! Rest assured that it's being looked at by the relevant team so thank you for taking the time to share it 🙂
@fredvandertang, the dismiss option can be found at the bottom of the screen as shown below:
We hope this helps.
I just logged on today and my Discover Weekly has changed from the catch all playlist of new things I might like that I have been training for years to deliver me what I want. I only rarely add songs to my liked songs in order to get more of that kind the next week. This week it was themed to be afrobeats. While I'd like some afrobeats in my discover I absolutely don't want it to be only that. If there's going to be a niche/themed discover weekly please have it in addition to the general one. I want that one back.
I never selected any of the Genres, yet the quality (variety) of my Discover Weekly has radically degraded. Please bring back the old algorithm, or at least provide an option to use the older version.
I listened to it almost religiously for years, using that app someone built to automatically save it to a separate playlist each week, in case I missed a week, and so I could listen again (I'd always forget to save it manually). Anyway, the entire beauty of Discover Weekly was that it did all the work for you—you didn't have to think—it just gave you one playlist, with a manageable set of songs, to discover**bleep**, regardless of genre. Yes, as some have said, some weeks it just sucked but there still might be a couple gems in there. Now it's 5 separate playlists, divided by genre, and most of the genres aren't even relevant—making it no different than choosing any other playlist on Spotify (which for the most part suck). The variety and surprise was what made it unique and made it worth listening to.
What were they thinking? "Let's celebrate this feature that's been loved by users for 10 years by CHANGING it!" Great idea!
How is anybody supposed to know this?! I stopped listening to discover weekly after YEARS because this change was so bad.
Same, but for me its like vampire goth in a catacomb with a deep voice over 80s drum synth and i despise it.
Hey, i tried doing that and it reduced my discover weekly to twelve songs, six of which are greyed out with a red symbol indicating that i hid them in the past because i didnt like them… does that sound normal? If i click on a genre i get a ton of songs.
I also dont recall being prompted to choose genres - i definitely would not have chosen emo rap or indie genres for myself at all. Is there a way for me to tell spotify that i dont want those genres in my discover weekly?
Hey there you, Yeah, you! 😁 Welcome - we're glad you joined the Spotify Community! While you here, let's have a fun game and get…
