How do I stop Spotify from creating hundreds of empty playlists?

I've had this problem from the start where Spotify just creates empty playlists and when I delete them it just creates even more. They're numbered but some of them have the same number and it's not consistent, by that I mean that for example, I have a playlist number 2 and a few with the number 3 but no number 4 or 5.
I'm currently at number 3364 and it's really getting annoying since my library is nearly filled up with empty playlists that I haven't created nor do I know how to stop it.

This sounds really odd and it's not expected for the app to create playlists on its own. Let's see if we can help you out here. 

First off, it's worthwhile to perform a clean reinstall of the app, as this is more thorough than the normal one and ensures that no cached data will cause interference with the new installation of your app.  See if this will return things to normal for you.

Please also check if your account has not been compromised by another person and make sure to secure it following the steps here.
