My Question or Issue

Hello Spotify Community,

This is occurring on multiple songs - I save a song to several of my playlists but when I view the song on the album it’s on and click on add to playlist to confirm that the song is on one of the playlists, it’s not listed as on the playlist. However, if i go to the playlist, it is there.

Take this song for example - Northern Sky by Nick Drake from the Bryter Layter album. I saved this song to multiple playlists, including “best of jeff - v11.11”.

When I access the song from the album, and click on add to playlist - it’s not showing as being on “best of jeff - v11.11” :

Please see screenshot #1

However, when I go to the “best of jeff - v11.11” playlist, it is in fact there :

See screenshot #2

How can this be fixed ?

Please advise.

Thanks !

Sunny regards,

Jeff

Hi, @sunRiseSet,

Most likely the songs have been uploaded multiple times (as a single, as part of another album, a compilation, etc.) and each upload has a unique identifier on Spotify called URI which would explain why one entry appears in some of your playlists, while another appears in completely different ones.

To avoid confusion, you can update your playlists to include the same version of the song: start by removing all current versions of "Northern Sky" and save the exact same one across all of your playlists.

In the meantime, there's a live idea about consolidate duplicate tracks with different URIs which you may find interesting, so feel free to check it out and give it a thumbs up to show your support.

Hope this clears things up. Cheers 🤘

Hi Yordan !

Thanks so very much for your response.

However, the riddle remains unsolved (for now !).

The song in question - Northern Sky by Nick Drake, as you say has been uploaded multiple times from different albums.  However, I had already carefully chosen the exact same version across all my playlists.  That source / version is from the Bryter Layter album, of which I can only find one upload.

Thank you for alerting me to the Spotify URI - which allowed me to go deeper into the issue.

So again, to stick with the example for this one particular song - Northern Sky by Nick Drake, when i access the song from the album Bryter Layter the Spotify URI is spotify:track:7pdmBld4yW3WIUkrxHyb5r

But when i access this song from the best of jeff v11.11 playlist, the Spotify URI is different : spotify:track:7dGgCgyGJW0KUcRnxpq1Z8 - even though the source / version is the same - from the Bryter Layter album.  Furthermore, if I drill down more by copying the link to the song -  https://open.spotify.com/track/7dGgCgyGJW0KUcRnxpq1Z8?si=c73fc029143c46f6 , and pasting it into a browser search, i am taken to a lyrics page.  Please see screenshot #3.  This is not the lyrics page that is opened when the microphone icon is clicked on, it’s some other kind of lyrics page.

Thanks for the link on consolidating duplicate tracks.  However, I don’t think that’s the issue here.  Additionally, I already periodically use the 3rd party Spotify Dedup to remove duplicates.

Please advise.

Thanks again !

Sunny regards,

Jeff

Hey @sunRiseSet,

Thank you for keeping in contact and for the info shared.

The page that opens when you paste the link on the browser is the Song's page directly. If the song has lyrics it will be shown below the album art as part of the page and not highlighting the current part as the Lyrics feature does when you click the "Microphone" icon.

We appreciate the feedback regarding the different URI's when sharing the song from the same album, the idea previously shared by @Yordan is about unifying the different URI's from the same song into one to avoid this type of issue, we'd recommend adding your vote to it.

If you want to make sure that the same URI of the song is being added to your playlists, we'd recommend pasting the URI directly on the search bar of your app and adding the highlighted song. Bear in mind that if the artist/right holder removes the track from the platform and adds it again, the URI may change.

Thanks for your feedback again. If anything else comes up, don't hesitate to ask.
