Local Files not showing album covers on desktop

Local Files not showing album covers on desktop

My Question or Issue

The album covers for the local files are not showing up, but only on the desktop app.  I tried the version of the microsoft store and the one on the official website, but none of them worked. On android the covers show perfectly fine, so the problem is  the app. I saw some people saying about "converting" the songs from apple music or something like that, but I don't have an iphone and this looks like a pretty bad work around.

Another thing is that after I play some song of the local files (again, on desktop) every song I play gets the cover removed, like it can't load them (3 photo)

Adding the covers from itunes worked, I didn't want to use it because I tought was a paid service or something like that, I never used something from apple. Anyway thanks for the help! But do you know why it works only on itunes specifically? Everyone was saying that this was the solution and I got curious

Hey @CaioEmPessoa,

Thank you for reaching out here in the Community.

Could you let us know what file format your songs are in?

Currently, Spotify will display the album covers for files that are in .mp3 format. If you downloaded your tracks in .flac or .wav, the app will play them, but it won't display the artwork as it's unable to pull up this information from the file's metadata.

If your .mp3 files are missing an album art, try a clean reinstall of the app by following the steps here. In case the issue persists, try editing the song's metadata and set the artwork manually. Here is an idea about editing a track's metadata directly in Spotify which may interest you. Feel free to check it out and give it a thumbs up 🙂

More info about Local Files can be found here

Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

The files format are .mp3. I tried a clean reinstall for the two versions of the app, but just to be sure I tried again and it stills the same. I rechanged the metadata of one of the songs too but didn't work, it could be an error of the program I'm using but if it works on the android version idk.

* I tried on another laptop and the error turned out the same

Hey @CaioEmPessoa,

Thanks for your reply and for the info shared.

In this case, we suggest you try by changing the location of your local files within your computer to check if you notice any changes on this behavior.

On another note, we'd suggest you try adding the covers to metadata using a different software from the one you originally used to see if that makes the difference. For more info, check this thread.

Lastly, would you mind sharing with us the exact Spotify version you're running there? Just to confirm, are you using a VPN service? If yes, try switching it off.

Keep us in the loop!

Hi there @CaioEmPessoa,

Thanks for the reply.

iTunes is a media file management software in its own right. There are other software on the market, which can be used to edit track metadata, but this one is easy to use and convenient, so most people prefer it. You can use Windows's default metadata editing tools to the same extend, but depending on your .mp3 files and how you've obtained them the metadata might not always get recognized in full by the Spotify app.

Cheers.
