FAQ

Are we removing the whole radio feature?

No, we are only removing Playlist Radio. Track/artist and album radios will still be available.

Do we have features where users can have a similar experience?

Yes, right now we have the enhance button or the recently rolled out smart shuffle to give recommendations based on user-created playlists.

PLEASE bring it back.

I do not accept as a solution and I do not appreciate your answer. Your new features are lackluster and we could easily forgo one of these terrible features in favor of a feature that worked better and was more useful. Every update has made Spotify disappointing and this is a small ask for making the app less meh in general. I do wonder if the playlist radio doesn’t come back because it’s require actual music that has similar qualities and there isn’t anybody work at Spotify who can make non AI-generated decision. Very disappointed. Definitely won’t be the last time I have something to say about this.

When Spotify openly ignores 'Live Idea' requests and pain-points that have clearly been defined, 'voted' and 'replied' on thousands of times (both on this thread and the "Bring back Playlist radio" thread), it seems that our contributions to the 'community' are pointless, making this feedback community anything but communal.

Please bring back the Radio from Playlist feature.  It's one of the most voted on 'ideas' in the last 10 years of idea submissions.  There currently are no valid alternatives to this feature and nothing comparable has been provided.

Not a solution, not backing down. It wouldn’t be so bad if your enhanced option wasn’t so atrocious! It recommends the same music over and over again, the music is barely curated, and the format to listen to what’s been added is annoying. I don’t want to have to listen to my playlists to find the music! All you’ve done is made me over listen to a playlist or have to play the skipping game to simply try and get a new song. Which you won’t anyways, because it recommends the same useless drivel every time. Is it run by AI yet? Because the whole process is painful, frustrating, and disappointing. Shame on you for acting like you’ve solved this issue.

No, the song, artist, and album radios obviously aren't any kind of substitute for the playlist radio...and neither is the Smart Shuffle.

One of the best things about playlists was the ability to make a list of a kind of song one liked, and then hear a steady radio of other songs of that type. Not songs like a certain band, or album, but songs like a complex playlist of different music.

Shuffling a few such songs among one's existing playlist is no substitute.

And one of the worst things soulless corporations do is constantly take away features. The excuse that it somehow is making room for other features doesn't fool anyone: There is plenty of "room", we're talking about a virtual environment, not the physical world.

That's corporate sociopathy for you.

They are indifferent to the needs of their customers, because corporate law insulates them from direct accountability.

And they end up being a faceless mass of bureaucrats, rather than individuals making decisions that take each user's preferences into consideration. They tend to not even really think of customers as individual people with specific feelings and ideas. Just as a faceless, pestering mass.

Plus, said decision-makers have no specialty or interest in the product.

Do they have a software development degree?

A music degree?

No, they have a worthless business degree.

Their expertise is "project management", the opposite of anything capable of understanding the user or product.

This was by far the best possible feature on you tube. Rather than song radio which seemingly gives you artists that are similar to the artist of a song, Playlist radio would create a blend of new songs that took the best parts of multiple genres into one cohesive playlist. It was such a seamless way to build out playlists for their general vibe rather than the literal genre.

I'm so fed up listening to the same music again and again. And as all the others assist said, no your track/artist radio is not nearly as good as the playlist radio!!!

The claim that you listen to user feedback holds no value if you do not act on it.

It concerns me that you say song radio and artist radio is going to replace playlist radio. I really want you to know that it does not replace playlist radio. That was one of the best features in Spotify and it's been taken away. This is my first attempt to try and get it back my next attempt is using a different app till you guys bring it back. Which upsets me because I've been using Spotify for maybe 15 years.

They don't care, this entire community site is a joke; they use it to make it look like they care. They actually could care less; they have the largest market share for music streaming apps, and continue to add marketing-driving bloat trash. Most user journeys have gone from 1 to almost 3 taps, if not extra sorts. The removal of Playlist radio was such a shock to my system that I ended up building my on workarounds using the API, essentially a thin client with features that were removed and workarounds for the 'fat' that they've added. I'm not holding my breath, but as soon as a competitor creates a similar-level service/app, I'm canceling my account with the quickness. I've lost all respect for this company long ago, but unfortunately, under all the trash, some of the core features still exist and work better than anything else out there, for now.

Yes, that's precisely where I am:

Dabbling with the API (I'm a professional developer) while looking for some competitor that is either better, or at least going in the right direction instead of taking away features and adding needless steps to the interface.

I switched to Apple Music last year and haven't looked back. Cheaper and better sound quality!

Please bring this back!! Just basing a station on a single album, artist or song limits the station so much more than basing on a playlist!!

Please return playlist radio - this is such an important feature. Crating a playlist and building a radio based on that is such an important feature for exploring music.

Please bring this feature back, the smart shuffle feature is nowhere near the same. There is no one who doesn’t want this feature back.

There have been so many negative updates to Spotify, it’s not as good as it used to be for many reasons, please at least bring this back.

Two years later I still loathe this decision. No one uses smart shuffle.

Worst decision. Been waiting patiently since months on this. And no updates yet. NOW BRING. IT. BACK.

I think they removed it because it not allowed them to mess with traffic what they did all the time when I was their customer. They have a range of listeners and can influence market, I think they doing money on fraud game. This is why this promise of return never happen - it reducing gambling possibilities, and if they will do it it will place cristmas song in manowar playlist

While Playlist Radio has been removed, Song, Artist and Album Radios are still available and serve as valid alternatives.

No, Song, Artist, and Album Radios are absolutely NOT valid alternatives. I honestly cannot comprehend how anyone could think that they are.
