Recently played artists not updating

Recently played artists not updating

The Recently Played Artists feature on profiles that have it turned on has not been updating in over 24 hours. This has been an issue in the past, especially toward the end of 2024, and a thread here was even put into the ongoing issues forum. That thread has been closed and marked as resolved as this feature has been functioning like normal for several months.

Hey folks,

Thanks for your replies and all the info!

Since a lot of troubleshooting steps have been exhausted in the thread already, can you check the following:

  • You're playing the track all the way through to ensure the artist will appear in Recently played artists and the song in Recents
  • The playlist you're listening to isn't marked as “Exclude from your taste profile” from the three dots within the playlist
  • You’re not in a Private session or listening in Offline mode

If the issue keeps happening afterwards, try toggling "Recently played artists" off/on again to force a resync and make sure your app is always up-to-date.

We'll keep monitoring the thread, but for the time being we aren't able to reproduce the issue and as it seems to be happening sporadically on your end, it might be isolated to your current setup. If possible, try using another network and make sure Spotify isn't being restricted by your firewall settings.

It’s been working fine for about the last 48 hours. Slightly lagging by a couple of minutes this morning but still working. Will let you know if it changes.

Seems like it's working fine for me now, thanks!

For anyone still having issues on PC/Desktop app, make sure Spotify is allowed through your Firewall and check both "Public" and "Private" options! (don't forget to press "OK" after) - that, along with the latest update, fixed it for me.

For those using Android/iPhone, sorry I don't have a solution for that. 😞

It’s back to not working, hasn’t been working for the last 12, possibly 18 hours. It was working fine and has been working fine for the past 3 weeks. Will make a video soon to demonstrate the issue.

I just added screenshots because I don’t want to try to edit out my name in the video. But the first is a screen shot of my profile page with the Recently Played Artists, which hasn’t updating for going on a day. The second is of my “Recents,” which has been updating in real time. I am not in private mode, and again, it’s not just an issue with me and my profile, when I view other’s profiles, even though they have listened to music in the past day, it is not updating to me when I view their public profile, nor is it updating to them when they view their own profile from their account.

Hi there @ceecee17,

Thanks for keeping us updated on this.

We understand this has been working for a while, so let's try waiting for a bit and let us know if the issue persists. Additionally, make sure your app is up-to-date as there have been updated recently released. You can also try logging out and back in twice in a row. This sounds simple but can re-sync the info on your device and app.

For anyone else, do let us know if you're also experiencing this behavior again, and make sure you share the info requested by @AlejaR.

We'll be on the lookout.

once again the recently played artists is not updating - in app (iOS) or desktop (Mac OS) - all versions current and up to date (Spotify and operating systems). It just stopped updating a few hours ago despite continued listening to music (songs played in full, in part, etc. no clear trigger or reason).

Hello! Sorry for my delayed response!

As of today, this issue is not still happening. I believe I have all of my recently listened to listed going back to March 19- 8 days after I first noticed the issue. Today is the first time I have checked my Recents page in about a month because I just got used to not having it.

  • Device make/model: iPhone 14 Pro iOS 18.5
  • Spotify version: 9.0.50- last updated June 6
  • I never put private listening on, and I never noticed the issue happening using offline listening just because I don't use it that often.
  • It wasn't when listening to certain artists or skipping tracks. For me, the issue was just that the page was only showing March 11th and before or it just wouldn't show up at all and it would be stuck on that three-dot loading screen. I consistently listen to a variety of artists, and I don't think I skip tracks that often.
  • I'm sorry I don't have any screenshots or recordings!
  • Sorry this response is so delayed @MateusM , but deleting and redownloading didn't work when I tried it. However, like I said, it seems to be working for me now and hopefully that continues.

Thank you for your reply and help!

- Melissa

Back to not working again. It’s been working well this past month.

It’s not working again 😩

ios 18.5 / iPhone 15 pro

app version 9.0.60.632

recently played seems to be updating hours after initial play, then sometimes the list will disappear again and then regenerate again hours later.

Yeah I’ve done all of the troubleshooting and can confirm the tracks I’m playing are played in full and appear in my recents, I’m not offline, not listening privately, app is up to date, iOS is up to date.

For the record the desktop app on Mac OS (all software up to date) is also having this issue. It’s behaving exactly the same as the mobile app.

It hasn’t been working for almost a week now. It’s a Spotify server issue that needs to be resolved.

It is not a user problem. It’s a Spotify issue. It’s happening with my account and all my friends/people I follow.

Can you guys please take this seriously? It’s a really important social tool for many of us, and the fact that it routinely breaks is really disruptive, especially when it’s met with dismissal in this support community. People have provided screenshots and app versions and all sorts of data and it seems like y’all are just not investigating it.

Support stopped responding in the old thread and this issue has persisted despite many users sharing screenshots and app versions and attempting self-troubleshooting. Something is wrong on Spotify’s end because this tool continuously, randomly breaks.

This is an active issue at the time I’m writing this ticket, and is consistent across all app platforms - desktop, mobile, and web player. And it’s not just my profile, my friends’ stops updating too even though I’ve confirmed with them that they are actively playing music.

Here’s my info:

Plan: Premium

Version: 9.0.72.965 (iOS); 1.2.70.409.gd4fa4141 (Spotify for macOS (Intel); Chrome browser

device software: all most current as of August 21, 2025

behavior: the recently played artists section usually updates in real time, after playing a track (either in full or in part), the artist name is added to the top of the section. Randomly, this will just stop - no change in playback, no changes to settings (such as switching to offline mode or private listening session), no changes in network or WiFi access. It just stops updating that section. Then the artists will trickle in over the course of hours, or sometimes all at once many many hours later.

troubleshooting attempts: app updates when available (no effect); signing in and out twice as was suggested in an old thread (this has no effect); deleting and reinstalling the app (no effect); toggling on and off the recently played section in my settings

it’s really frustrating and it’s my favorite feature of Spotify because it’s a primary way that I connect with my friends on the app. Please, take this seriously and look into why it keeps happening.

This keeps breaking. You need to reopen this investigation.

can y'all please fix this

Wondering if you are looking into this issue again? It breaks all of the time.

Hey folks,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community about this.

@lespigeons, thank you for bringing this into attention again and for the details you've included in your post. To continue investigating this internally, would you mind including the exact iOS and Mac versions? Also, could you confirm if you've tried with a different Wi-Fi network? If not we'd recommend trying with a different one or a mobile data hotspot to see if it makes any difference.

@pepperbarks, could you include the same info in your next response to have as many examples as possible? In case you've already tried any troubleshoothing, it would be great if you could include it as well.

Also, and if possible; could any of you record a short video where we can take a better look? You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. You can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).

We'll be on the lookout for your response.
