Recently played artists not updating

The Recently Played Artists feature on profiles that have it turned on has not been updating in over 24 hours. This has been an issue in the past, especially toward the end of 2024, and a thread here was even put into the ongoing issues forum. That thread has been closed and marked as resolved as this feature has been functioning like normal for several months.

Hey folks,

 

Thanks for your replies and all the info!

 

Since a lot of troubleshooting steps have been exhausted in the thread already, can you check the following:

  • You're playing the track all the way through to ensure the artist will appear in Recently played artists and the song in Recents
  • The playlist you're listening to isn't marked as “Exclude from your taste profile” from the three dots within the playlist
  • You’re not in a Private session or listening in Offline mode

If the issue keeps happening afterwards, try toggling "Recently played artists" off/on again to force a resync and make sure your app is always up-to-date.

 

We'll keep monitoring the thread, but for the time being we aren't able to reproduce the issue and as it seems to be happening sporadically on your end, it might be isolated to your current setup. If possible, try using another network and make sure Spotify isn't being restricted by your firewall settings.

Spotify app version: 9.0.72.965

devices: iPhone 15 Pro, MacBook Pro, Chrome web browser

iOS: 18.6.2; Sequoia 15.6.1

 

Troubleshooting attempts:

-logging in and out twice (made no difference)

-uninstalling and reinstalling the app (no difference)

-toggling off and on the recently played artists display (no difference)

 

I have tried it on multiple WiFi networks, as well as on cellular data alone (I allow spotify to use cellular data when WiFi is unavailable), and this has no impact. It’s also as I mentioned happening simultaneously with other users who are on different WiFi networks, devices, geographic locations, etc. so I doubt the problem lies in an individual user’s settings or configuration.

In order to send the full info internally to reopen the investigation, would you mind including in your next response (if possible) a video where we can see the behavior you're mentioning? 

 

Also, @Meghanm95 and @pepperbarks, would you mind including the same device information in your next response? This is to gather as many examples as possible with all the needed info to pass it to the right folks.

@OscarDC do you have an email address I could send that to? I’d rather not share a video publicly with my profile info. 

It was working fine this morning (US EST) but has stopped working again this afternoon. It has been increasingly patchy over these past two weeks, working fine then stopping, then working fine then stopping. I just don’t understand why this feature is so buggy. 

Mine has started today again. Did the same thing a couple of weeks ago, then has been about 30-45 mins lagging and now it’s just not updating at all. 

Tried it all - reinstalled, logged in and out twice, cleared cache, updated app, checked iOS was up to date, checked my settings. Nothing works. Happened at the back end of last year for weeks. I’m getting fed up of this, seriously thinking about switching to another service because it just doesn’t work. 

I have tried reinstalling spotify on all my devices and logging out of all of them, but it doesn't seem to fix the issue. What do I do?
