Many songs in one of my playlists are grayed out and when I click on them it says that the content is unavailable. This is frustrating because I am able to find and play the songs via Search. I have uninstalled and installed the app on my mac and there is no change.

they probably got removed from spotify due to various reasons but most of the time it is copyright i think, it sucks but nothing to do about it
As @Paul_12 posted,
Some songs are unavailable in certain regions, due to licensing and other issues. These songs will appear grayed out on Spotify.
Please read this article for more information.
As mentioned in the post, I can go to Search for these songs right now on my app and play them.
However, they are grayed out and unavailable when viewing within my playlist.
Oh, I see. Thanks for clarifying.
Sometimes duplicate albums will be removed and tracks can be moved around. This may have been what happened to you.
It appears since the tracks in question don't have any album artwork, they may have been previous local files. Do you have any other local files in Spotify?
Thanks for the response. No I don't. I actually cleared the cache in the spotify app to try to resolve the issue too.
Did you ever find out what it was? This is happening to me too now. I can play songs on another playlist, but on another they're greyed out and can't be played, so it definitely isn't a region lock.
Tried asking from the support but they just said they "send it forward" and didn't confirm is it a bug or what, so not very helpful since I don't know can I do something about it. Tried to delete and add them again into the playlist but it did nothing. Odd.
No I just had to re-add the songs to the playlist and delete the grayed out ones. Very dumb.
