What is the "Local Files" on my Playlist?

When I select my library and look at my Playlist, I see a playlist called "Local Files". What are these "Local Files" and where did they come from? Can I add files I have downloaded to this "Local Files" playlist? Are they music files I had on my local PC when I installed the Spotify application. The "Local Files" playlist shows up on my web application and my phone app, buy not on my Android Auto app? Is there a way to see the "Local Files" playlist on the Android Auto app?

Hey @kingsnake_9i, welcome to the Spotify Community! 🎵

You are right about local files. This feature allows you to use your music files inside the Spotify app with other playlists, just like any other song. Currently, you cannot use it with Android Auto since the files are never uploaded anywhere; they are played from the locally stored versions.

You can add a local file to a playlist on your phone, and it will be updated on your desktop app (for example), but this only syncs the song's position and not the actual file. You will need the files on each device where you want to listen to them, and the feature is supported on those devices.

I'd recommend checking out more details about local files in this article.

I hope that helps. Let me know if you need anything else. 🙂
