My Question or Issue

I can not paste URL links into a playlist on desktop. Receive error "no results found for.... Same result when trying to paste in a just single URL. Other posts here suggest this feature should work. I have tried both with and without the "?si" suffix.

URLs are all active, If I paste them individually into browser directly they all work individually. Format I am pasting from is a .txt file simply using Ctrl C, Ctrl V. There are no spaces in the URLs. The URLs are from a message group export, around 3,000 tracks. Below is example of the data set with carriage return before each http . Any help greatly appreciated!

Hi @Doylie,

Thanks for the reply.

In order to paste multiple tracks in a playlist, you need to do the following:

  1. Open your text document with all URLs and copy them.
  2. Open the Spotify app, go to your playlist and without clicking on the mini search bar (you can simply click anywhere outside of it so that it isn't selected) press Ctrl + V to paste the tracks into the playlist.

Let us know how it goes.

Cheers!

Hi there @Doylie,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. We'd like to take a closer look into this.

We tried from our end and it worked fine.

Can you start with performing a clean reinstall of the app? This will make sure there's no old cache files.

On another note, do you get the same behavior if you're using the web player?

If the issue persists, can you provide us a screen recording so that we can have a closer look directly from your end?

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Cheers!

Live, love, laugh and listen to music 🙂

Thanks very much for the quick response. Clean install performed, and have checked on the web app.

Getting the same behaviour on both players:

Pasting in the example text into playlist with full URL throws an error - See screen shot 1

Pasting in the example text into playlist with the partial URL (dropping the ?si=..... suffix) gives a list of 4 tracks, but they are not the right tracks! they dont even seem to be songs.. See screenshot. 2

Pasting in a single line of the example text (full or partial) into chrome address or search bar redirects me to the correct song in Spotify.

It is very confusing behaviour! Please use the .txt attachment to see if you get the same behaviour, at least I can then isolate if it is the URL detail.

Hi @Jeremy,

Really appreciate the assistance with this.

I have a music chat group who are all excited about having all our shares in one playlist.

Have you been able to replicate the issue by using the the text in the .txt file attached to previous post?

Many Thanks, Chris

Hi Yordan,

Thanks for the response but it seems you may not have read the post. I am aware of the functionality. I am copying the text in using ctrl-V or right click, paste.

I continue to get the same behaviour I have described, both web and desktop. Could you please use the .txt file that provided, copy paste it in your self so i can confirm if the error is at my end, with spotify, or with the URL details.

Alternatively if there is some sort of whatsapp - spotify intergration I can use please let me know (i presume ITTT can not do much as middleware). I have a music sharing group on whatsapp where spotify links are shared, with many thousands of songs, our goal is to get them all on to Spotify playlist, which i can then update periodically.

Thanks, Chris

Thanks, Chris

My apologies Yordan! seems i was pasting in to the search bar rather than clicking on the blank space and pasting there. it is now working.

Hey @Doylie,

That's awesome! You can also do that with Spotify URIs as well, they look like this: spotify:track:6MZKGgLEH7DR6u54LUd8zV

The Community is always here if there's anything else you need assistance with.

Have a good one!

Hello, I am having a similar issue. Only when I copy/paste my links in the desktop app, I get notified that the paste worked, but the playlist stays empty.

pmugisha_0-1682609429477.png

When I open the playlist in the browser, I get this

pmugisha_1-1682609628529.png

It shows that there are 45 songs, but not really.

Hey @pmugisha,

Thank you for your reply in this thread.

Could you try log out > restarting your device > log back in to see if that makes any difference for you?

If you still experience this, it might be caused by an issue with your device's cache. Not to worry, performing a clean reinstall of the Desktop app with the steps here should help solve this. It'll also get you the latest app version with all necessary updates and fixes and remove any corrupted files from previous installations.

Keep in mind that you'll need to re-download your offline music and podcasts afterwards.

If the Web Player still doesn't show the songs, but you can see them on your Desktop app - try updating the browser that you currently use as updates usually offer general fixes and stability improvements.

Hope this helps. Give us a shout if you have any further questions.

Pasting Links like "https://open.spotify.com/track/ ..."  into a Spotify playlist does not work anymore (December 2023), is that correct?

Hi Tom, yes that's correct. I've been using that method to produce new playlists for a long time but attempting to paste a list of Spotify track URL's into a new playlist using Ctrl V has stopped working in the last 7 days, have you found the same problem recently ?

For clarity you might be wondering why I do this rather than simply dragging one playlist to another. The reason is that I use a 3rd party software to export an existing playlist, then do some processing outside of Spotify and then need to import the new processed list of tracks back into Spotify and it's at this point that I am now having difficulty.

I also just tried to do this and noticed it wasn't working.

With the recent update, the problem seems to be fixed. You can add songs from the clipboard by clicking CTRL-V in the Spotify app. Thanks!

Hi Tom, yes I can confirm that it’s all working correctly now 😃

i m in free version and waiting for this thing to work is this possible now
