mp4's not showing in local files

My Question or Issue

I have a lot of local mp3, mp4 and m4a files to which I listen to via Spotify. This always worked fine until today (11-07-2025). All mp4 files just disappeared from the local files list leaving only the mp3's and m4a's.

Hey @CasW, welcome to the Spotify Community! 🎵

Could you try if those same files are playable on another devices like the desktop app? If they are but not on the mobile app, try a clean-install of the Spotify app and see if that helps.

There is also a local files FAQ available here where it is mentioned under “Local File not playing” that certain .mp4 files may not work as local files.

I hope that sheds some light on the matter. Let me know if you need help with anything else. 🙂

I have found the issue.

All of the files were in the music folder. Aperently this blocked access to the files because moving them to a different location outisde the music folder made the problem disappear.
