like i actually despise it cus
it was perfect before and
sure people said that id get used to it over time and i did .. i still hated it but i got used to it ... until this new change ...
I will press the + button by the song title to add it to a playlist
the next new song that i press the + button on , intending to add it to my liked songs , goes into the playlist i added the last song into as opposed to my liked songs
i truly think that whoever signed off on this idea was not in their right mind at that moment and this must be reversed as well as the heart returning instead of the + immediately
thank you
Hey there @onadeko,
Thanks for reaching out about this here in the Community.
Just to confirm, does this always happen with the same playlist? If so, does that playlist have a lot of songs?
On another note, we suggest that you try logging out and then logging back in to your account twice in a row to see if that makes the difference.
If the issue persists, it's well worth running a clean reinstall of the app to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble.
Let us know how it goes.
On mobile, it automatically adds it to your last added to playlist instead of adding it to your liked songs. As someone who meticulously creates lots of playlist, this ruins my experience. There’s now 30-50 songs added to plethoras of playlists each and not added to my liked songs when the opposite should be true

My Question or Issue
Lately the “+” button adds songs to the playlist most recently added to, instead of Liked Songs. This is counterintuitive, unhelpful, and entails several extra steps to change which is both time consuming and confusing. It took me a while to figure out I was adding songs to the wrong playlists by mistake, which also meant I wasn’t actually “liking” them either, and it’s not easy to find and resort them especially if you’re not paying attention. Please change this function back to the way it was, at least until there’s a separate Like function.
The 'Plus-Button' used to only add music to the 'Liked-Music' playlist, then would bring up a menu where it could be added to any playlist thereafter.
However it seems that the button will attempt to automatically add music into a playlist.
While I might have added that song to the pop playlist this new system makes it very likely that a song will be added at random to one of my nearly 100 playlists (which are sorted into folders and sub folders) and get lost in a shuffle only to be found by accident when it unexpectedly comes up in a place I never wanted it to go.
I ask that you add an option which makes the plus button exclusively add music to liked music playlists or bring up the menu listing playlists, instead of adding a song into some unexpected playlist.
This is how it worked as recently as yesterday but it has changed for seemingly no reason.
Please roll back this change.
Hey there @Heat_Chalk,
Thanks for posting on the Community! Hope you don't mind us moving your post as it fits better here.
So we can get a better understanding on what happening, could you let us know the make & model of your device, along with the version of the operating system? Your current Spotify version would also be helpful.
It would be great if you could include a photo or video showing how things look from your end, so that we can have a look as well. Should the files be too large to attach here in the Community, you can send them to us as unlisted YouTube videos or via Google Drive.
We'll keep an eye out for your reply.
I am using the IOS and Desktop App on the latest versions.
Thanks for the info @Heat_Chalk!
Does the same behavior persist in the desktop app as well?
Having checked the screenshots, it looks like you've noticed this in the Happy Mix playlist. Could you test with a different playlist that's made for you and even if you search for a song?
Hope to hear from you soon 🙂
It doesn't happen on the desktop version.
I think I have narrowed it down to what's happening.
When I open the short list of options "Add to Liked Songs" is replaced with "Add to Reggae" and when I press the 'Plus Button' it automatically adds it to that playlist.
This is because I have added something to Reagee right before so Spotify is assuming that's what I want to do again.
The plus button just adds it to whatever the last added to playlist was.
I want an option to make the plus button add the song to the liked playlist only without taking away that quick add option (I often want to add several tracks to a playlist, so the feature is helpful).
Hey @Heat_Chalk,
Thanks for the response!
I think you might like this idea here which suggests to have both the heart button and plus button in the app. If you'd like, you can give it your vote in order to show your support, as well as add your comments in the thread there. The more votes an idea gets, the more likely it is for it to be implemented.
We're always looking for ways to improve and offer better functions to our users and thank you once again for sharing your comments here.
Should you need help with anything else, don't hesitate to post 🙂
I think this is the single worst “feature” I’ve seen added to any music app I’ve used. And that’s saying something for Spotify alone let alone iTunes back in the day.
So Spotify thinks I can remember what the last playlist I added to is, and that it’s convenient for me to calculate that in my head and use the top button as a “shortcut”?!
Why are you replying elsewhere that this “feature” is an unexpired occurrence whereas on this post it seems to admit that it’s intentional?
Ps whoever’s making these “creative” decisions, fire them immediately and hire me. I guarantee 100% I’ll do a better job. You don’t even have to pay me.
I don't mind the (+) button, I just think it needs to default to "Liked Songs". This feature that got introduced in the last month has caused mayhem for my Spotify organization and just general happiness / use of the app.
What a dumb change, what for? Awful experience now, ruined my library. I do playlists to explore music and then use the like button to filter from that list what i really liked, AFTER LISTENING FFS. Worked great before, now is useless. Suggest that i like songs before even trying them. Dumb dumb dumb useless change. Please bring back previous user experience that everyone was happy with. So annoyed, dont you have better things to do than change for the sake of changing? Went backwards big time!!!
I just want to like the song though... the plus sign adds it to a playlist
Hey! So I've been having this problem where if I'm not looking at the spotify app directly, and click add from either the lock screen, home screen, or pull down menu song players, it will add the song to the last playlist I was listening too.
This usually only happens if I've gotten to the end of a playlist and now it's playing from recommended, and it will add the song to the playlist and not liked songs.
If that makes any sense
Can this please be changed back so that clicking the plus button always adds the song to the Liked Songs?
I'm not sure if one of the previous replies specified how this is happening (or if there's multiple ways this happens), but here's how it's happened to me:
I've created playlists that were just songs I wanted to hear and see if I liked them so I can add them to the Liked Songs. Once I was done adding the songs I liked, I deleted the playlist. So because of this, I don't know how many songs I intended to add to Liked Songs and are now gone.
Hey there you, Yeah, you! 😁 Welcome - we're glad you joined the Spotify Community! While you here, let's have a fun game and get…
