App Storage Usage does not decrese after playlist deletion.

App Storage Usage does not decrese after playlist deletion.

I made a bunch of songs available for offline use. Checked the usage statistic in the Setting menu of my Ipod Touch.

Deleted all the playlists I had (offline and online). The usage statistic did not decrease at all. It still stated I was using 750 MB of storage.

Try deleting the app and it might clear the space so the usage statistics show the free space.

You can then reinstall Spotify again if you would like to continuing using it with a fresh start.

That's what I wound up doing...

then I repeated what I did the first time (with less playlists). Same result.

I just joined Spotify a few days ago..my Touch is only 8 GB. If I have to delete the app everytime to fix this I doubt I will continue my subscription.

-EDIT-

Just found this thread...

Apparently this is a known issue for 2 years.

That's sad.

Check your usage statistics to see how much free space you have.

If after installing Spotify and making playlists available offline -- and you don't have much space left, try considering deleting unused apps or making less playlists available for offline use.

Playlists that are not downloaded for offline use won't take up any space.

The only thing that would take up space is the app data.

This is the problem with mobile devices since there is a limited amount of space.

Sorry if you can't understand what I wrote. It's very difficult to explain this.

Oh ok, I just saw your edit.

Yeah, there is only so much Spotify can do with the app since they build off what Apple gives developers.

I hope this can be improved.

I am very clear on what the issue is. I just bumped the thread that asks the question regarding a "clear cache" button.

"Yeah, there is only so much Spotify can do with the app since they build off what Apple gives developers."

They could at least address the question. Just skimming that thread it doesn't seem like Spotify has made any official statement.

As for blaming Apple..sorry man, can't buy that. I know of a few apps, specifically browser apps, that allow you to clear the cache.

Get an Android 😉

Only kidding. But you must admit. Those browsers probably store the data in a different area, so they can erase it. If you don't want to use up so much data - don't download songs for offline mode.

Obviously, this is quite difficult on the iPod Touch, as you can only use wifi but...

Don't blame Spotify for something that they can't control 🙂

Thanks for the replies and all...but I'm still not buying it.

Downcast is an app that saves audio files which can be deleted. I'm sure there must be others that function in a similar way.

Re:  "don't download so many offline playlists" - I have no problem with have a full Ipod of Spotify playlists..the storage usage could be 5 gigs for all I care. But when I want to make room it shouldn't be as difficult as delete EVERYTHING.

This is a terrible excuse. Blaming apple?

How does Rdio and every other podcast offline syncing app do it properly?

I use Rdio now because of this bug and when i offline sync songs it takes up space, when I unsync them, the space is freed up.

This implementation makes no sense on spotify's part and an official answer should be given. its crazy that this has gone on this long. absolutely CRAZY

It's not just Apple.

I have an HTC Desire and it doesn't clear space on the SD card when I delete downloaded playlists. A poorly written application is the only reason why it's like this. Nothing to do with Apple, Android etc

It's not that big a deal to re-install each time you want to clear the data but it shouldn't be required.

Uninstalling and Reinstalling is super poor way.

I often only want to unsync certain playlists. That is the point of the feature. If I listen to one and I do not want it anymore I unsync it.

I often offline sync my local files and I do not want to redo it every single time I have to uninstall and reinstall.

Not really a good option.

Bob..it is a big deal. What if I want to delete 3 playlists but I have 20 playlists downloaded. I have to go and download the other 17 playlists again because the only solution to clear a cache is to burn down th fields!!

The mobile app needs a clear cache, or similar, button that will delete the playlists that are not explicitly flagged to be stored offline.

The app attempts to do this transparently, but it does not work very well. If I open the app on my iPhone (version 0.5.6.19), and do not hit play, but instead let it sit for about 10 minutes, it will delete some of the playlists that I chose to not sync offline. However, I say this does not work very well because for whatever reason it will always use about 10.1 GB of iPhone storage. I'm not sure if it's caching music as I play it, or the delete threshold is buggy, but it will never go lower than 10 GB unless I delete and reinstall the app.

So I'm back to my initial recommendation of a clear cache button. Please implement this, as sometimes we do not want to dedicate 10+ GB to the Spotify app, especially for users with lower capacity devices.
