Black Screen in Now Playing View on iPad (v9.0.90)

Hey folks,

Some of you with iPads running the app version 9.0.90 may encounter a black screen when you tap the Now Playing View (bar or cover art). The app becomes unresponsive, blocking access to features like lyrics, queue, repeat, and shuffle.

Your track may keep playing despite the black screen. Closing and reopening the app can temporarily fix the issue while this is being looked into.

Hey folks,

We're happy to announce that this should now be fixed for everyone - just make sure you're running the latest version of Spotify available.

If you're still having trouble, it's worth logging out and signing back in to your account to force a resync or performing a clean reinstall of the app to get rid of any potentially corrupted cache.

Should you need assistance with anything else, you can post a new thread in the relevant help board here.

Cheers 🤘

My Question or Issue

(Spotify version is 9.0.90.1227) I try to click the song I’m playing on the bottom left of my screen just so that I could go to my queue or to enable repeat, shuffle, etc but doing that makes my whole screen go completely black and (almost) unusable. I say almost because very few times I can get the black screen to go away if I click a VERY specific spot on the screen (usually it’s the top of the screen, almost near the Wi-Fi and battery info). I’ve tried resetting the iPad, uninstalling Spotify and then reinstalling it, logging out and then logging back in, but nothing has worked. So while this issue persists, I cannot edit my queue or see what’s next in the queue (very annoying when I have shuffle on and can’t see what’s next). I don’t have this issue on the Spotify app on my iPhone 13, but I rarely use my phone for Spotify. It seems I’m not the only one with an iPad that has this issue, but it would be nice if this could be resolved soon. Especially because I pay for premium to have unlimited skips & no ads but also to have a vast queue, however, with this issue it decreases the premium subscription’s worth. Right after I wrote this, I checked my AppStore and noticed the app had just been updated a few days ago automatically but then after a moment it showed there is another update to install, I don’t know if that will fix the issue but I will see.

Same here, ipad pro m1. I found out the only way to solve it is to tap the top left corner, where normally you tap to exit the not playing screen

HEADS UP! IF YOU CHAT WITH THEM THEY WILL CREDIT YOU AT LEAST 50% OFF YOUR NEXT MONTH'S PLAN. MAYBE THEM LOSING MONEY WILL MAKE THEM FIX THIS FASTER!

PLEASE fix multitasking. The Now Playing banner is no longer there. So I cannot repeat, loop, nor see the timestamp. I use multitasking 100% of the time.
