Bluetooth/Bad sound since IOS update.

Bluetooth/Bad sound since IOS update.

Hi, to make this really short, ever since my Iphone updated to 9.3.1 the sound in Spotify has been terrible when run through Bluetooth and I can't seem to fix it.
I've tried it on two separate headsets, a speaker and in my car with the same terrible static and disturbances as a result.

So far I've tried fiddling with some settings, resetting the connections but with no results at all.
(Note that all other audio through Bluetooth units is normal, it is only Spotify.)
Kinda sick of my music sounding like I'm offroading in the woods with a record player, so if anyone has any suggestions I'd really appreciate it.

No, it's just Spotify

like already said, it's just spotify...

i tried apple music and youtube streaming and that works perfectly...

Hey there!

Just got word from a mod that Spotify doesn't support Bluetooth directly anymore, just like was stated in the support email received by y'all.

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but that's what happened.

Well that's crap. What support email?

The email that @h0rse received. 🙂

This was his post a while back:

"Hey again.
I contacted Spotify support directly for the issue, but got no help at all since they "Do not support Bluetooth devices" so I'll just have to assume that it's some form of IOS compatibilty issue.

I still have no idea whatsoever what one could do to rectify it"

Hope that helps!

Oh yes. Well no, it doesn't help at all. Why would they not support Bluetooth in isolation? Perhaps Apple should pull Spotify from the App Store until it works correctly with their hardware...

Is there any chance that the Spotify devs will look at this issue or do we, as paying customers, have to just hope that it fixes itself in a future Spotify/iOS update?

Very disappointed.

Hmm, I'm guessing it has to do with actual connections between Spotify software and hardware in bluetooth speakers. I'm probably wrong, but it was worth a shot.

I've passed this on to the Spotify developers.

Sorry to hear your dissapointment with Spotify.

Is there anything else I can do to help?

Thanks for passing it on. I think you've done all you can 🙂 lets just hope more people report the issue and/or Spotify rectify it. Bluetooth audio is something that the phone / iOS itself controls. Spotify is just an app that sits on top and plays audio.

well that is no satisfiying answer for me, i usually have no problems with Spotify...but just saying we don't support bluetooth when a bug is found that is no customer service. i will wait a week or so, if not resolved i will switch to Apple music, because i've tested Apple music and that works like a charm!

So please Spotify fix the bug, because the problem only occurs with Spotify, or you will lose paying customers, including me!

@smrabet I know this must be a very frustrating situation for you, but all we can do is wait it out.

It could even be an iOS compatibility bug with Spotify. We can't know for sure.

Again, I'm very sorry about all this.

Thanks. Have "the powers that be" mentioned that they'll look in to it at all?

@hcanning: Well since I don't work for Spotify I won't know for sure, but I passed the problem onto the right people, so it'll eventually reach the developers. 🙂

Hey @h0rse @hcanning @smrabet @mapuya19

Yes, the help article on the Spotify support site says Bluetooth is not supported, but that is talking about directly supported hardware. Spotify is software. Bluetooth is hardware and has to be supported by the device you are using Spotify on.

Most mobile devices and laptops have support to stream the playing audio to Bluetooth. Spotify sends its audio to the device it's playing on and the device sends the audio through Bluetooth. Playing Spotify over Bluetooth on iOS has not been disabled by Spotify themselves. It should work like it usually does. It should work just like any other audio app.

To me it sounds like the problem is a bug in iOS 9.3.1 or a bug in the Spotify iOS app

Note: I'm not a Spotify employee.

well if you ask me, it has something to do with the spotify ios app, because other music apps stream perfectly via bluetooth. as i mentioned, for example youtube and apple music work without any problems.

so i hope they fix this soon, because this is very annoying

iOS 9.3.2 has just been released. Do we know if this has sorted the problem?

Hey there!

I'm not sure yet, but I've heard that updating to iOS 9.3.2 could brick your phone so I would avoid updating for now. 🙂

Hey!

We're afraid Spotify doesn't oficially support Bluetooth at the moment, but we'll make sure to pass your feedback along.

Can you let us know the make and model of your car? Also, if you use am aux cable, does the same happen?

Keep us posted.

Well i have updated the IOS, no improvement here!
And i actually tested the native IOS music app, Apple music, and it has the same stuttering when i receive a message or unlock my screen. So the problem isn't with the spotify app itself, however i think spotify engineers coule solve this in their next sprint (thats IF they want to solve it)

When the iphone is playing music and is lockef, there seems to be no problem..:
