Can Spotify for iOS access local Apple Music files?

I've searched lots and haven't found a clear answer for this. I've read through

which explains how to transfer music files from a desktop machine to the Spotify iOS app, but I'm looking for confirmation that the Spotify iOS app can't access local Apple Music files already on my iPhone. 

Can anyone verify this is the case, and if so, why doesn't Spotify allow this? Plenty of other 3rd party apps can access the Apple Music library on the iPhone...

Right now Spotify does not access the local Apple Music files.

To sync music files to the mobile Spotify app, follow these directions:
