Can’t search downloads when not connected to internet & offline mode is off

Can’t search downloads when not connected to internet & offline mode is off

The search page gets stuck loading when you try to search for downloaded music, you’re not on a network and the app is not set to offline. You can work around it by setting the app to offline temporarily, but that’s not a permanent solution since you need to go through the process of switching between offline and online modes manually every time you connect to a network.

The way my setup is configured when the issue occurs is as follows:
- Airplane mode is on
- Wifi is turned on, but no known networks are in range. The issue seems to not appear if wifi is turned off completely
- Offline mode is set to OFF.
Spotify app version: 8.8.24.312
iOS version: 16.4.1 on an iPhone 14 Pro

Hey @jacquesvfd,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome.

In Spotify, you can use the search option to look for a song within your downloaded content while offline. To do so, the app must recognize that there's no internet connection available by turning off your Wi-Fi/data, activating the Airplane mode on your device, or turning on the Offline mode.

However, if there's no nearby networks, but the app is still trying to connect to the internet, it will prioritize the online search by trying to look for a network signal to connect to and this may cause the app to not show the downloaded content or increase the waiting time for results to show. Taking this into account, the issue you mentioned is an expected behavior.

In this case, we'd always recommend using the Offline mode to prevent this from happening or making sure your device has the network connections turned off.

Hope this clarifies things a bit. If you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to ask.

So to clarify - the search completely failing when it is looking for a network is expected behavior? You’d think it would try for a couple of seconds, before switching to a local search and filling in online results if it manages to connect. The current implementation just seems strange to me.

I understand that I could disable Wi-Fi and turn on airplane mode every time I want to search, or use offline mode, but it just seems like there’s a clear solution to the issue without being a hassle to the user.
