Delayed playack when connected to Yamaha RX-V781 receiver

Delayed playack when connected to Yamaha RX-V781 receiver

When I start playing a song on my receiver, there is a delay of 10-20 seconds before the song starts playing. This happens when I press play or skip forward or back.

 

It happens when using Spotify Connect from either my Windows 10 laptop or my iPhone. It happens with the receiver connected via Wifi or hardwired.  Internet bandwidth is not an issue. While the start or playback is delayed, the time counter on the spotify app starts counting up instantly and the display on the receiver changes instantly to the new song. It is as if the receiver is buffering.

 

There is another spotify connect device on the network and playback initiates instantly on this device.

 

This may have started with a recent firmware update to the receiver.  I'm now finding that the receiver does not always connect when selected as a playback device and will timeout.  Previously, initiating a connection was reliable and there was no delay.

 

This all leads me to believe that the issue is with the Yamaha firmware.  Spotify, can you please work with Yamaha to resolve this issue?

I have reached out to Yamaha and this is their response below. I know that together you guys can work out a solution.  The reputation of both your products is at stake here as the value of Spotify is dependent on solid hardware integration and requires a strong relationship between you and the hardware makers. Together you have a problem here to solve. 

I have tried resetting the receiver and the network connection. Please reach out to Yamaha as they need your help.

If you check on Spotify's Community site, Connect protocol has affected many brands. It's not model specific.

And, for some reason, this issue appears once in a while and disappears. We have seen it happen sporadically. We have reported it to Spotify when issue appears and they've done nothing.

For the record, Initializing the receiver and renewing Network connection has solved it.

The delay may be caused by slow response from Network or event Spotify server.”

 

This issue is still observed. Delay is about 10s, even though song title is displayed instantly and reaction of Yamaha app (av receiver) is without any delay (control the receiver, increase the volume etc). Observed recently on Yamaha rx-v683.

Same issue! It takes minutes to finally connect!
