For as long as I am using Spotify for listening to podcasts the procedure was as following: I download a bunch of podcasts, go to "Your Library" -> "Your Episodes" and I was able to listen to the podcasts one after the other. One podcast was finished, the next would start.
Since a few days things look like this: I go to "Your Library" -> "Your Episodes" and I play the first podcast. Once it's over a random song from a random playlist is played. I have to open the app, close the song, open my episodes and start the next podcast.
I have not changed any settings, so I am guessing this is caused by a recent update. Any hints on how to solve this issue are highly appreciated.
Looked like it worked for the initial day the update came out and went back to playing crappy random suggested music while listening to podcasts. Please just for the love of god published an update with that feature removed or disabled until you fix it.
My app is showing being updated 2 days ago and it happened the last two nights.
Free plan playing via an android app connecting to a Alexa device.
Reposting again since the update since nothing really changed aside from os

My Question or Issue
This has just started to happen on Feb 7 or 8 2025 and just to be clear that I DO NOT HAVE AUTO PLAY ON as I've seen others who post similar issues and the first they say is that and basically never follow back up or read any replies that have the issue where that doesn't work. With that said here is the exact scenario where my issue has repeated every time without AUTOPLAY. I typically use Spotify to listen to podcasts from my iPhone through an Alexa echo speaker. Now after I listen to 2 or 3 episodes back to back after selecting the episode from the series episode list it just automatically switches to recommended music that is not my taste of music that I would never listen to it and won’t let me select going back. Any time I click play on another episode it repeat the process every time 2-3 episodes. From the versions I have used which is browser, Xbox app, and the iPhone app this only happens on the iPhone app.

Lately, when a podcast I am listening to from my downloaded episodes finishes, instead of it starting the next episode, I get a "suggested song". And it almost always is Drake! Or something similar, always in a genre I rarely listen to. And it will just keep going and not play the next episode unless I intervene. Can this be prevented? Or am I just stuck with it because I have the free plan?
Hey everyone,
Thanks for your patience while we looked into this.
We're happy to say that this should be fixed, just make sure you're on the latest app version and let us know how it goes.
Cheers!

My Question or Issue
Several of the same promoted songs keep playing automatically after every podcast episode finishes. I'm playing episodes from the "your episodes" playlist in the order in which I saved them, but now I have to manually select each subsequent episode to stop some terrible song automatically playing; especially a problem if I am driving, which I do a lot of. I've disabled auto play similar content, but still happens. Can't see another option to stop it. I just want to listen to my podcasts uninterrupted!
I don't know how to "accept as solution", but I no longer have this problem. So thanks!
As of today, the original problem (see first post) is back!!!
I am using Version 9.0.36.556 on iOS.
Hey there @tom19991,
Thanks for keeping us in the loop.
There should be a newest version of Spotify available on the App Store. Would you mind checking if you can update the app? If yes, try again and let us know if the same happens in that latest version.
On another note, it'd be awesome if you could share with us any troubleshooting steps you've tried so far since the issue resurfaced. That way, we can isolate this behavior further. Just to confirm, does this happen on a different device?
Lastly, if the issue persists, please send us a video recording. You can attach the video in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public, so we can visualize it.
We'll be on the lookout for your reply!
@tom19991 Can I check if you listened to music before the podcast and specifically that one track? Also, has this only happened one time, infrequently or it always happens?
I didn't listen to that song, before playing the podcast.
However with version 9.0.40.506 I cannot recreate the problem. It happened only twice then I guess. Today I didn't have a problem, listening to multiple podcasts in a row.
Hey @tom19991,
Thank you for keeping in contact and for the info shared.
We're glad to know that the issue seems to be fixed. We appreciate all the troubleshooting you've tried and time you spend keeping us in the loop. We'll still be on the lookout in case something else happens.
If you have any additional questions, remember that the Community will be here for you.
Cheers.
I also had this problem, and it went away for many weeks, only to recur today! I listened to a podcast downloaded in "Your Episodes" and when it concluded it started playing "Recommended Songs" rather than the next podcast. This is annoying. I don't even listen to any music remotely like what was recommended.
Hey there @Catpark100,
Thanks for your reply here.
In this case, we'd like to check, have you tried some troubleshooting steps? If yes, it'd be awesome if you could share them with us, that way we can avoid repeating any steps.
Additionally, since you mentioned this resurfaced recently on your side, it'd be awesome if you could send us:
We'll be on the lookout for your reply!

This morning, I was playing a podcast from "Your Episodes" (downloaded) - "#SistersInLaw" 238 (see screenshot). As soon as it finished, rather than the next podcast in "Your Episodes", or an ad, playing, Spotify played the "Recommended Song" "What I Want" by Morgan Wallen (it's almost always this song). When that song concluded, it continued to play "Recommended Songs" and would not move to the next podcast without my intervention (Screen_Recording_20250531_061349_Spotify~7.mp4). Previously, after one podcast in my list concluded, the next one up started playing.
Next I played a podcast from "New Episodes" (not downloaded) - "The Ringer-Verse" episode from today. As soon as it finished, it played a song supposedly from my "Play Queue", then transitioned to another episode from "The Ringer-Verse" rather than the next podcast in my list (Screen_Recording_20250531_082129_Spotify~4.mp4). Your help is appreciated!
Hey @Catpark100,
Thank you for keeping in contact and for the info shared.
We've passed this info internally again to continue investigating this behavior. We appreciate all the troubleshooting you've done so far and all the info included in your posts, it's really helpful. Even when we don't have a specific date for this to be resolved, we hope it will be as soon as possible.
We'd also recommend having your Spotify app updated, so you don't miss any improvements coming your way.
Stay tuned.
