My Question or Issue

all of a sudden Spotify will not connect to either of my speakers separate or together as a group. YouTube music works fine. I’ve logged out, reinstalled, reset all devices, factory reset everything. When I hit connect, it tries for a minute but then just times out. Again, other apps connect fine, it’s only Spotify. I don’t want to switch to YouTube music, but I’m out of ideas, I’ve cleared the cache, there’s nothing else to try.

Hey @k_e7mhri-3nu

Thanks for reaching out to the Community about this.

Currently, iOS 10 isn't supported by the latest Spotify version, so it's possible that this is causing issues for you. For more info about the specs needed to run the app, you can visit this Support page. One workaround would be to update to a more recent iOS version, if that's an option for you.

Hope this info helps. Let us know if you have any questions or if anything else pops up.

Currently I am on the latest iOS. 14.1 I believe. I have also tried to play through an HP PowerBook also doesn’t work. It has to be account related. YouTube music app connects fine.

Hey @k_e7mhri-3nu,

Thanks for keeping us in the loop.

Could you let us know the make and model of your speakers? That way we can investigate further what might be causing this. It would be helpful to also test all available connection methods - Bluetooth, Connect, Chromecast etc.

If it's an option to log in with a friend or family members account and see if the issue persists there we can check if it's indeed account related.

Keep us posted, we’ll keep an eye out for your reply.

I have a Visio sound bar SB3651 and a Visio crave 360 speaker. I used to connect to them via chromecast either separately or together in a group or Bluetooth. Bluetooth still works, but chromecast just stopped working after years of working fine. I cannot connect to the speakers individually or in a group. I’ve never used connect because I don’t think my speakers support it. I tried with a test account with Spotify support and it also didn’t work. I’ve factory reset all devices, reset modem, cleared cache, made sure everything is up to date, logged in and out, re downloaded Spotify.

Hey @k_e7mhri-3nu,

Thanks for getting back to us and troubleshooting you've done so far.

Could you let us know which Spotify version you're running? It's a good idea to make sure that you have the latest one installed. You can follow the steps here. It's a good idea to also make sure that your visio devices have the latest firmware installed.

We'd appreciate it if you try it out also with another network connection, such as a mobile hotspot. Let us know if casting works as expected then.

We'd love to investigate this further! We'll be here if you have any other questions.

Currently on Spotify version 8.5.85.836. All my devices are up to date with the latest firmware.

Hey @k_e7mhri-3nu,

Thank you for your reply and confirmation.

Is it possible for you to try with another internet connection?

Also - can you perform a clean reinstall of the app? This step will clean the cache and corrupted files from previous installations that can cause issues.

We'll keep an eye out for your reply 🙂

Cheers!

Okay. After many weeks of frustration I may have figured out the issue (sort of), but I'd still love to try and figure out what's happening, so let me start from the beginning...
The Background:
I have a Vizio sound bar 3651 and a Vizio Crave 360 wireless speaker. I connect them together through the Google Home app as a speaker group, and then use Chrome casting to play music from Spotify to the speaker group so I can play both speakers throughout my house. It worked great for years. I love it, that's why I've spent so much time trying to figure this out.
The Problem:
About a month or so ago it just stopped working. No more casting. No casting to either of the speakers individually and no casting to the group of both speakers together. Bluetooth still worked fine for either device, but I want to cast to both. The sound bar acted like it was about to connect, but it just kept "connecting" and then eventually just stopped. No error message. However, other apps, like YouTube music casted just fine through the speaker group. Only Spotify wouldn't work, this is why I thought Spotify was the issue.
Troubleshooting:
I did everything. I'm not kidding, everything. I'm a tenacious person and I loved the multi speaker set up. I tried from a different device, I logged out of everything, I restarted everything, including router, I cleared the Spotify cache, I reinstalled all apps, I factory reset all devices, I made sure everything was up to date and had latest firmware. I deleted the speaker group in Google Home and re created and added both speakers. Let me tell you. I did it all. Finally I cancelled my Spotify account and surrendered.
The Breakthrough:
Last night I was troubleshooting again (its my part time job now) and I was in the middle of factory resetting my Crave 360 speaker (again). I tried to cast to the speaker group and it started casting! It started casting when the Crave 360 was removed from the group. Once I added the Crave 360 to the group again, the casting stopped again; however, this time I was now able to cast to the sound bar alone, just not the Crave 360 or the speaker group it is contained in. I was not able to cast to the sound bar before either, but now I could, progress. Not sure what caused that change.
The Solution:
If I remove the crave 360 from the speaker group in the Google Home app, then start casting to the group, then add the Crave 360 back in AFTER I am already casting, it will catch on and start casting also, solving my issue, but I have to do this every time, if the Crave is in the group when I first try to cast, it wont play, it has to be out of the group when I start to cast, then added in.
Questions:
Uh, so what the **bleep** is going on? It seems that the Crave 360 is the issue, but why did YouTube music work fine? Does this mean Spotify is part of the problem too? Or is the Google Home app the issue? I have deleted and re added all devices in the Google Home app, I've deleted and re installed the app, logged in and out etc. The problem is still there.
Anyway this issue was so bizarre and I've spent so much time looking at forums I thought Id put this out there to hopefully save someone else some time and frustration.

Having the same issues as you (albeit with LG MusicFlow / Chromecast speakers). I can't even stream to them individually let alone as a group. I have to stream to them using Spotify Connect which thankfully is an option, but only single speakers.

As a very strange update though... yesterday (23rd November), Chromecast/Google Cast worked absolutely fine. Single and Group speakers worked perfectly from around midday (UK Time) through to when I went to bed around midnight.

Woke up this morning (24th November) and it's all down again and not working.

Very Frustrating!

Is this actually being looked into? I chatted with a Spotify rep over a month ago about this exact issue and got almost the exact same word for word response from them that "tech team is investigating this". However, when I look through this thread and all over Reddit, many customers are still facing this issue. Has there been any real progress on fixing this problem where we cannot cast Spotify to our Vizio soundbars? Why is it taking so long to add functionality back that used to exist flawlessly just a little while ago? Does Spotify not care that this was an issue created through an update on their end?

Hey there @P_Raw21,

Thank you for your post in this thread.

We can confirm that we've passed this on to the right team that's investigating this.

However - we can't say a specific date this will be a fix.

If you have any questions we're always one reply away.

Cheers!

Double-check to see if any other Spotify log in is interfering. sign out of Spotify on your device. double-check it's the same email as the one you have with your google cast. It could just be getting confused. sign out then say. " ok google lets set up spotify " or something like that.

Well, it’s not working again. Lol. If you read my last post I did get it to work by removing my crave 360 speaker, starting to cast, then adding it back in, now that’s stopped again, back to nothing working. I did sign out and unlink/delink Spotify to google home. One thing that’s different now, Google home shows that it is casting and playing music...but it’s not. When I go to Spotify it doesn’t show that it’s connected to anything. Back to square one, so ridiculous.

Jeremy, it seems that the issue has to do with the Cast version on the soundbar. The cast version is 1.21.75965. It's possible that support for this version was dropped earlier at the beginning of November. Can you please work with the necessary teams to bring back functionality to this version of Chromecast? Thanks.
