This should be investigated by consumer protection agency - absolutely unacceptable!
I don't mind if the podcast host is reading out third party adverts or endorsements but it seems this is just not the case.
I'm based in New Zealand and when I'm listening to German podcasts I receive advertisement for local New Zealand companies and products.
Please explain how this is possible if not orchestrated by Spotify !?
This is clearly a long con, seems like they enabling it for revenue and then simply disabling it when people complain. There is no way that this has been an issue since 2022.
I have this problem as well as if it doesnt end I'll simply end my sub and recommend the same to all my contacts.
There is no way they haven't found a solution if they've been receiving complaints for 2 years....
Wow what's the point with Premium if you still get the ads???
Just happened to me too - I’m shocked! The ads read by the podcast host are worse enough for an expensive subscription but Spotify adding ads?! That’s literally a scam. Commenting yo push this topic into awareness. Probably canceling the subscription is the only metric they will consider to evaluate this decision.
This is confusing. I want to express my deep disappointment and frustration with my recent experience using Spotify Premium. Why should I pay for Premium when I get the same benefits as the free version? Spotify's explanation that ads are included to provide value to podcasters feels disingenuous. This is ridiculous! I need to find a better platform.
I couldn't agree more. There's a HUGE difference between a podcast host reading an ad, and the garbage that spotify shoehorn in at random moments at the HIGHEST VOLUME POSSIBLE. It's unwanted, and completely against the "no ads" perk of paying for Spotify premium.
After years of premium, it’s time to vote with my wallet and subscribe something else
I ran into this problem about a month ago (mid Oct 2024). I find it especially annoying when listening to podcasts from the ABC. The ABC is the national broadcaster in Australia (where I am). They are not allowed to receive money from advertising so these ads on Spotify are NOT supporting the ABC who produce the podcast.
Equally annoying is the same podcast on my husband's account just had some promos for other ABC content, which is normal. My account had ads for banks and TV shows! We are on a family account so it just bugs me more. I can handle 'a word from our sponsors' type stuff in a podcast where a podcaster has developed a relationship with a brand or company but having random ads that are clearly not related to the podcaster is so annoying.
I paid for premium individual and the payment was done for the first three months trial but it does not work since there are still ads...but I have never had premium before.

My Question or Issue
How can I solve this?
I like how Spotify is completely silent in the face of these complaints and offers no work around. Lying to you and expecting you to put up with it is the current management style of more and more tech companies. They know that we're mainly a bunch of sheep. Don't be a sheep!
so how do I turn off the podcast ads? this might finally get me to stop using Spotify. I HATE BEING ADVERTISED AT especially in my downtime when i am trying to relax.
So I figured out that this random podcast was added to my playlists. I just removed the podcast from the playlist.
I wish there was somebody at Spotify who listened to our early warning signs here. We care enough that we write here, many don't.
Spotify is a safe space for us; unlike YouTube or other social media channels that can have intrusive content.
As others mentioned previously, it's a big difference if the podcaster reads an advertising or if a random company intrusively gets into our space when we experience radio intimacy. It hurts the trust the Spotify brand has built up.
Please stop; give us a way to have an ad-free experience and a "safe space" before it's too late.
I have same problem when i arrived to UK. In czech republic nothing like that. Should be fixed soon or i will cancel subscription as I don't see any benefits of having premium then.
Hello, I would also like to come on here and express my agreement with the users above. The automated Spotify ads are completely inappropriate and irrelevant to the podcasts that I listen to and they add so much time being subjected to ads during the listening experience. I am seriously considering ending my Spotify Premium membership and going back to Apple because of this. I hate how everything has either a ton of ads or requires tons of paywalls to get to ad-free listening. Or as in the case with podcasts on Spotify, I can't even get away from the ads anyway when podcasting. Very disappointing.
