Hi everyone,

Thank you for your inputs and patience so far.

Our tech folks are unable to provide an exact timeline for a fix at this moment.

In the meantime, there's this idea about keeping Spotify Connect's audio control separate from the device volume which you should check out and give a like to. Even though the idea is marked as Closed, it's still open for voting and we encourage to show your support if you'd like to see this feature implemented.

The Community is always here if something else comes up.

Take care.

Hello, I just updated my iPhone 12 Pro Max to iOS 15.0.2 and am having the same issue. Spotify version is 8.6.72.1273.

I have tried the steps mentioned in this thread, such as deactivating background app refresh, running a clean reinstall, clearing cache, deleting and reinstalling the app, and it only worked temporarily. After about an hour, the phone volume was all the way up and controlling the volume of Spotify on my desktop, even though Spotify was closed on my phone.

This is frustrating as I have Spotify running on my desktop at work and am afraid to open any apps on my phone because the volume is full blast, and turning it down also turns down the Spotify desktop volume. I also noticed when I went home the app immediately tried connecting to my laptop which is in sleep mode. Not sure if that's normal or related at all but I didn't have this issue before updating my iPhone.

Thanks!

Liz

@Jeremy

there seem to be quite a few people that have seen this, and I think there are steps to reproduce this in the thread also.

Could you please provide an update?

This is starting to become a problem, we are using Spotify on an Alexa to play stories quietly for our child when going to bed- all the sudden my phone is controlling the volume on the Alexa even when Spotify is off; far from ideal

Hey folks,

Thanks for posting here.

If you haven't already, could you share with us the exact Spotify version that is running on your watch. We'll also need the exact OS version of the watch so we can look into this further.

Keep us posted.

This has been happening for me since iOS14. I recently upgraded to an iPhone 13 Pro with iOS 15, however it still happened on my iPhone X with iOS 14. I have a Windows PC. Spotify app is all up to date on both devices, this has been persisting across multiple updates. I use the same account for both devices. I have Premium.

If I play music using my desktop spotify app, even when I do not open the app at all on my phone, it makes my phone have max volume. The app is not open, and it's not running in the background. The PC app is not picking it up for connected devices. I have devices lock screen turned off on my phone app. I manually turn the volume on my phone down, the app is still not open, and then a little while later while playing music on my pc, NOT CONNECTED AT ALL, and the volume will go back to max level. A screen recording would be useless as it would only show the volume indicator flashing up as max, the app not opening, not running in background, nothing. I don't even have to be playing music for it to happen. The music could be paused and it'll happen, matching my phone volume to the volume spotify is set to. I also have background app refresh turned off for spotify on my phone.

It doesn't happen every time, but often enough, and sometimes I don't notice it so I'll play a video and have the bugeezuz scared out of me as it's suddenly max volume.

Hey folks,

Thank you for your replies and feedback.

Could you try initially setting your phones volume to medium or lower volume and repeat the behaviour and see if the spike to full volume still occurs?

Keep us posted on this 🙂

Hi,

My spotify version is 8.6.72.1273

My iPhoneX IOS version is 14.8

I’ve tried unpairing and re-pairing my watch from my phone.

I’ve deleted the Spotify app and re-downloaded.

It is happening less frequently, but still happening.

Aubrey

Yes, it still happens. Doesn't matter what volume level.

Yes it is continuing to happen for me as well, whether volume is on any level or on silent. I always have my volume all the way down and the app closed on my phone while at work, but it just immediately connects to the desktop app. I have to open the app on my phone to see it connected to my desktop even though it wasn’t running at all, and re-close it to disconnect the volume control, but it reconnects within a few minutes. Had to do that at least 12 times throughout the day today.

My iPhones volume is always below 50%, so yes, problem still occurs.

Hi there @fitetothefinish

Thanks for the info you've sent so far.

Could you also let us know the OS of your Apple watch?

We'll be waiting for your reply.

Hey folks,

@fitetothefinish thanks for sending this info! We'll forward your report to the right teams.

For any other users who are still experiencing this issue, please make sure to provide the info that @Xenia previously requested so that we can report this correctly:

  • Make and model of your phone & watch
  • The exact version of the app
  • The exact steps to reproduce the behavior you described
  • Does it affect the volume on the phone, watch or both?

We'll be on the lookout.

I've been having the same issue with Spotify on a daily basis since upgrading to iOS 15 (iPhone 15 mini), multiple times a day, but it happened randomly before that on iOS 14. I play music through my computer most of the day, and if I go to use my phone to watch any videos/media, the volume will be up all the way. This is obviously jarring, but also I'm concerned about hearing damage this may cause. My ears will feel affected by the sound for a while after each outburst - these already cause me enough grief without having to worry about how it will affect my hearing.

Closing the Spotify app on my phone does nothing to prevent this from happening (nor have any of the other fixes mentioned), so I'm resorting to just uninstalling it from my phone. I find it a little ridiculous that between Apple & Spotify this issue hasn't been resolved. I really don't care about all this interconnectivity with Spotify Connect - just leave my phone alone (along with its volume setting) and let me play music independently of my computer.

Hey @jackhumbert,

Thanks for posting here.

It sounds like you might be experiencing the same thing as the users who posted here. You can give the steps mentioned in the thread a go to see if anything changes.

In case the issue persists, you can share the following info in the other thread in order to avoid confusion.

  • Exact Spotify version
  • Device + OS version
  • Troubleshooting step that you're tried so far
  • Are there any changes when you try initially setting your phones volume to medium or lower volume?
  • Video recording of the issue

I don't really think that Spotify can understand the problem of most of us. Why the iOS OS volume level is connected directly to the Spotify app volume level? There are many apps in the App Store which has discrete app volume level settings. But if you wouldn't like to take care of this isssue, at least separate the remote device volume settings from the OS level volume settings. This is terrible, and very annoying.

If you need a screenshot video, I can send in email. I wouldn't like to share my phone settings publicly.

Hi there, sorry for the late response:

  • iOS 15.1
  • Spotify for Windows: 1.1.71.560.gc21c3367
  • Spotify for iOS: Version 8.6.74.1541
  • Troubleshooting provided by Chat support: reset account cache, change password, reinstall mobile app

Issue still ongoing btw. Even after I close the app both on my desktop and phone, the volume on my iPhone is left at 100% (since the Windows app is at 100%).

Same issue still happening (by the way, for over half a year) on iOS 15/15.1. Currently using iOS Spotify (New Music and Podcasts) Testflight version (8.6.82 / 868200551). Using in parallel with macOS Spotify app (current version - Spotify for macOS (Intel)
1.1.72.439.gc253025). Show Local Devices and Devices Lock Screen are turned OFF.
