Local files will not play on devices, only on computer

Local files will not play on devices, only on computer

I created a few files in Audacity, then set Spotify to recognize them and saw them listed on my desktop application. I can play them on my computer but I cannot play them on my devices. I have a Samsung S5 giving me "This track is not available" when I attempt to play it and an iPod touch giving me "track not synced." If it is listed as a file in the iPod, then it is partially synced, and the S4 confirms that something buggy is happening.

I tried in an iPad and it gives "track not synced" and when the attempt to sync is made, it doesn't get past the initial green bar. It will not fully sync. Please help.

Hello, welcome to the Spotify Community!

You want to sync local files from your computer with your mobile devices, right?

Try following the steps described here, for each one of your devices.

Let me know if this solves the problem.

Syncing is something that I already tried. I see the file names on the devices, but cannot play them. They are my own .mp3 files created on Audacity or on my Windows sound recorder utility.

I also cannot play a lot of other commercial song files.

Do you have a Premium subscription?

Forgot to ask...

Also, do your devices, the iPod Touch and the Galaxy S5, appear under the "devices" tab on the desktop?

Yes, I have a premium subscription.

No, my devices have never shown up under the devices tab. I am using the same Wi-Fi, and I am using USB cable from device to laptop. Not sure how to make this work. I uninstalled iTunes hoping this was the source of interference. Nothing in the Spotify FAQs helps.

If you have physical tracks (Local Files) that's located on your computer, you need to make sure you open the Spotify app on your PC/Mac/Linux and head to the Devices Tab AND open the app on your iPhone.
Also make sure that the computer and the phone is on the same wifi network.
If it still does not work, go to your iPhone and open a Personal Hotspot and connect your computer to the wifi network on your iPhone and all should be well!

If you need a video guide on how it works, follow this slightly outdated YouTube video (the idea is still the same though):

AND If you’re using a Mac, follow this guide to allow your Spotify to access through the firewall:

EDIT:

If you’re using Windows (here’s the Windows Firewalls rules):

Hi -- I still cannot get either device on my Windows computer. I edited the inbound to allow Spotify executables and I try USB wiring, they are all definitely on the same network.

@SimpleSolution You're using an iPhone or iPad version?

Take note that there's a bug with lightning cable:

Your best bet is to use the personal hotspot function to connect, turn on the personal hotspot on your iPhone/iPad and get your computer to connect to it.
