No song display on stereo and cannot control spotify through stereo controls

I've got a Kenwood KIV-700 stereo in my vehicle. I connect my iPhone to the stereo via USB cable that has the dock connector on one end that plugs into the phone. When I am using the Spotify App, I don't have any song info displayed on the stereo and the stereo controls cannot control spotify.

I'm not sure if its an issue with the App or the stereo.  A friend has a different stereo, not sure of the make/model, and he says he sees the song info and the stereo controls on his radio control spotify.

I know this is old, but I have the same issue with my Kenwood stero in my vehicle. Any fix or resolution?

I know this post is super old but I may have a solution. For my JVC head unit I have to be connected via Bluetooth for song info and steering wheel controls to work. If your devices support it gen give it a try!
