Offline Podcast episode downloads every two days again

Hi,

I've a premium account and use Spotify with the iPhone app.

A podcast with ads download offline episodes every two days. It seems to affect the podcast with ads before and after the episode only. Episodes of other podcasts does not download again.

It requires a lot of mobile plan download limit to download episodes every x days. And the download starts for all episodes after the app is started. With the "Download new episodes after release" enabled this would get worse.

Why are the episodes downloaded again and again? How can I prevent this? It's not possible to use offline episodes for this podcast with pre download for a longer trip.

Thanks for reaching out.

It's normal for the app to occasionally update offline content. In order to make sure this only happens when connected to WiFi, please switch Download using cellular off in the app’s settings (under Music Quality).

If that doesn't help, please get back to us, so we can investigate further.

Thanks for the reply. This WLan only option is known to me.

The problem is that the downloaded episodes are not available without redownload. I prepare the phone a day with the offline episodes. Now I'm in train or car and can not listen because episodes are gone. And the frequent download with wlan takes lot of time and energy if new episodes are added automatically of a podcast.

And the download takes lot of time for each episode with a gbit network connection. And I need to keep the app in focus and need to prevent screen lock. This stops the download until reactivate the phone. Keeping the phone active for 2-3 minutes for each episode is frustrating.

Expectation:

I download an episode as offline content. The content is downloaded till I delete it or I'm not allowed to have it. Updating the content for some reason should ask for update download for each or all episodes.

I added the podcast and episodes to another podcast player in parallel to check if this is caused by the podcast creator by modifying the episodes every x days.

Thanks for the info. What exactly happens, when you try and play a downloaded episode? Do you get an error? Please provide us a few screenshots or a video of the behaviour so we can investigate. In the meantime, you can also try performing a clean reinstall on the app to see if that alleviates the issue.
