Spotify Connect Airplay not working (timer shows music playing, but no sound)

Spotify Connect Airplay not working (timer shows music playing, but no sound)

I've been having this problem for months.  On Iphone 14pro with latest iOS, I try to connect to my speaker via Airplay in Spotify Connect window on the app.  I click the speaker, and then it shows that it's connected, and the music on the app shows that it's playing (the song timer is counting down), but no sound is coming out of the speaker.

My airplay works to this speaker on every other music.  It's only Spotify Connect that's having this problem.  It's absolutely maddening.

Spotify 8.9.16.556

iOS 17.3.1

Speaker:  Audio Pro c10 mkII

Hi there,

first time caller…

For years I’ve clicked the AirPlay button in the Spotify app(iPhone) and streamed music to various airplay devices. All of a sudden that feature doesn’t work anymore. Spotify says it connected to an airport device but no sound is coming out. I’ve reinstalled, updated etc all devices but had had no effect.

If I connect my iPhone directly to the airplay device and then use Spotify it works. But that method has its own set of issues.

I’d like to get this working again as it has for years. Any idea what I can try?

thanks!

Hey @jamjuice,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome.

This type of issue is commonly related to some damaged cache stored on your device. We understand you’ve already tried some troubleshooting steps including reinstalling, but to be sure that we're on the same page - did you use the steps for a clean reinstall mentioned in this article?

Also, since this could be related to network restrictions, could you check if tryng with a different Wi-Fi network makes any difference? If you don't have another one available, you can use a mobile data hotspot to test it.

Lastly, include in your next response the make, model, and OS version of your device, along with the Spotify version you're currently running to continue investigating the case.

We'll be opn the lookout.

I'm having the same problem.  Tried all the troubleshooting fixes.  Most recent Spotify version and most recent iOS.

Hi there @mtollhouse,

Thanks for your reply in this thread.

Just to check, did you try all the troubleshooting suggested by @OscarDC? If you haven't, give it a go and let us know how that goes. We'd also recommend restarting your internet. If you're using WiFi, make sure you restart your router. Additionally, if you're streaming from your phone, turn on airplane mode for a minute, then turn it off and check if that makes a difference. This will reset the connection, so it might help.

If nothing helps, send over the make, model, and OS version of your device, along with the Spotify version you're currently running.

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Hi there @mtollhouse,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community and welcome!

Just to confirm, is this something that happens all the time? Or are you able to listen to Spotify through Airplay sometimes? On another note, have you tried any troubleshooting steps to fix it? If you haven't, you can start by reinstalling the Spotify app on your device by following these steps. Additionally, try with a different internet connection. If you don't have any available, you could create a hotspot network from your mobile device and use it to check.

Also, this might sound simple, but it can help sometimes. Try enabling Airplane mode on your iPhone, wait one minute, and turn it off. Then try to play something again.

Let us know how that goes.

This is an issue I'm having all the time.  And I've tried every troubleshooting step that you suggested.

I'm able to connect to my speaker via WiFi in Spotify Connect, but when I select Airplay in Spotify Connect and the apple menu pops up asking which device I'd like to connect with via Airplay, I connect on my speaker, it then shows as connected, and the timer shows that the music is playing, but no sound is coming out of the speaker.

Again, Airplay works perfectly with every other app when I'm trying to connect to my speaker.  It's only Spotify Connect that I'm having this problem.

Hi @mtollhouse,

Thanks for your reply and the info provided.

Were you able to play music with Spotify on that speaker before? Did you notice if it's stopped working after an update or recent change? In the meantime, try resetting both your mobile device and the speaker and check if that makes a difference.

Additionally, could you possibly try logging out with a different Spotify account and check if you have the same issue? If you don't have another account, you can ask a relative or friend to log in with their account to quickly give it a try.

Keep us posted!

I’m facing the same problem. I reset all the devices, reconnected them, but it’s still not working. What should I do?

Hey @Hessamvahedi,

Thanks for your reply here and welcome.

In this case, you can continue by clean reinstalling the app on the affected device. By doing that, the app can be up-to-date, and you can make sure the cache is not leading to this inconvenience. You can find out the steps to do it here.

If the above doesn't do the trick, would you mind sending us more info about the devices with which you're having issues? Please send us the make/model and OS of the mobile device along with the Spotify version you're running there. Additionally, it'd be really helpful if you could send us more info about the device you're trying to connect through AirPlay.

Lastly, did you notice if this started to happen after a specific event, such as an OS update? If yes, please send us the details.

Having the same issues. And done the same steps as suggested in this thread. The device I try to connect to is a AudioPro Drumfire 2. airplay to this device always works with other apps, such as a large consumer electronics company's podcast app and music streaming app. Using iPhone 12 with latest Version of iOS.

Hey @rickzzoorr,

Thanks for your reply and for the info shared.

Would you mind sending us the exact troubleshooting steps you've tried so far? That way we can avoid repeating any steps. If you haven't yet, you can try:

  • Making sure your devices are turned on and near each other.
  • Check that the devices are updated to the latest software and are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Restart the devices you want to use with AirPlay.

If the above doesn't do the trick, we'd like to gather some additional info. Just to confirm:

  • Does this happen when trying to use the Connect feature?
  • What is the exact Spotify version you're running on your mobile device?
  • Has the app always behaved like that or if this behavior started after a specific event/update?

Keep us in the loop!

I have the same issue with my audio pro speaker. AirPlay 2 works great with YouTube, Apple Music etc, but not spotify.

Hey @b6c7-4i5y_sbl,

Thanks for posting in the thread!

Just to make sure we cover all bases, would you mind trying the steps mentioned earlier in the thread? You can find steps posted by both @AlejaR & @Susan_GP.

Should the issue persist, it would be great if you could let us know your device model & OS version, along with the Spotify version. If possible, feel free to send us a video showing how things look from your end as well.

Let us know how it goes.

Same problem suddenly started for me a week ago.

Ios 17.6.1

Spotify v/ 8.9.68

Speaker Harman/kardon citation 200

Hi!

Nothing has worked for me except resetting the speaker then it works until I turn it on again. And it always works with YouTube etc.

The speaker is Audio Pro C10 MKii

My device is:

iPhone 14,

iOS 17.6.1 (21G93)

However it does not work from my MacBook either…

Oh I forgot..
Spotify version: 8.9.68.490

Hi folks,

Thanks for sending over these details!

It seems that you're not running the latest version of the app, so can you try updating it and checking if the issue persists afterwards? If it does, a video would be very much appreciated as @Maria requested.

Let us know how it goes.

The thing that calls my attention is that I can play music with Apple music on this speaker (the jbl).something happened to the spotify app or the iOS that spotify is limited to certain devices.

Any help?
