Spotify Connect disables/silences notifications during playback on external speakers

Hi folks,

I have an interesting issue on on my iOS devices. Whenever I play music via Spotify Connect on my SONOS System or via generic bluetooth, Spotify seems to silence my notification sounds. This leads to missing every notification while listening to music on external devices. 

This effect does *not* appear, when using Airplay to connect to SONOS from within the Spotify app.

I checked on two different iPhones (SE2020 and 12) both using the most current iOS (14.2.x) and the effect is the same on both devices. It does also not appear when using the SONOS app to play Spotify songs. So it seams as if this is an issue within the Spotify app itself. Can anyone confirm this?

i have an iphone 12, I had the same issue where when i get a text while listening to spotify on my airpods i dont hear the text message sound or notification pop up.   got me in trouble with the wifey a couple of times.

The fix for me, was that i had ALLOW NOTIFICATIONS for spotify off.  settings -> notifications -> spotify -> allow

That setting is on for me and the problem persists!

Tried all solutions in the thread.  For me this only happens with Bluetooth earbuds (brands:Toto, Soundcore.). At the cost of Spotify this is completely unacceptable!  Probably leaving for Apple Music anyway due to cost.

My notification aren't played over the connected device.  This just happened suddenly about a month ago.  Cannot hear any text come in and most important i cannot hear my motion cameras notification when I'm in the garage with the music playing,  again this just happened suddenly...

• The affected device's make & model
• Its OS version
• Your Spotify app version
• The connected speaker's make & model

I know this is an IOS forum but I'm having the same issue with an android device and figured this post might be better served here since the issue would seem to not be a software-specific issue.

I have bluetooth headphones paired and connected with a single phone and computer. If the device playing Spotify is set to my computer, all phone notifications are muted but computer notifications come through fine. If the device playing Spotify is set as my phone, all computer notifications are muted but phone notifications come through fine. I don't observe this behavior with Youtube, Plex, or other types of media apps

I've also had issues with third-party apps like Tasker via simple pause/play actions causing unexpected behavior which I think may be tangentially related.

Has this issue been solved or is it just three pages of Spotify asking its users 100 questions?! I have the same issue. New download, still persists. If I am listening to Spotify on my phone, on my TV, or in any capacity, I cannot hear texts or phone notifications.
