My Question or Issue
spotify connect does connect with Onkyo TX-8130 via wifi, spotify app on iphone looks like it’s indeed playing but THERE IS NO SOUND. Please don’t advice on troubleshooting, since I researched all day. It is NOT the connection, not the volume or mute or the hardware whatsoever (tested it all). It is software-related; either on the side of Spotify or Onkyo. I read about a recent software update/new API that causes problems with older receivers, since Spotify doesn’t support this anymore. I bought my Onkyo in 2018 though and it said Spotify compatible. Can’t be that I have to get rid of a functioning receiver, only because Spotify doesn’t support somewhat older receivers anymore. Not very climate-friendly either (throwing away a product that is functioning ok for the other functions/sources). Spotify has a green policy, I assume?
I pay € 9,99for Premium, but I can’t stream now 😞 What to do? Go to another streaming service? Wait for a software update and pause Premium? I don’t have nor want to buy another receiver. And I don’t want to pay 10€ per month for nothing 😔 Please help!
me too, same problem with my onkyo 8150, im very frustred. Not working since last 3-4 weeks. Playing but not sound.
another issue is that i can't cast to onkyo when this is turned off. I always transmit from my app and my onkyo turns on the moment, but since this problem present is function not aviable
Same Problem here with my Onkyo TX-NR515.
Same problem with Onkyo tx-nr545.
Since a week or so.
Neither Android App nor Windows App Work abnymore.
I can connect, adjust volume, control next or last Song, play and pause.
The dong is displayed and the time left is shown.
BUT No Sound .
I have to mention that after yesterday it started working - today it stopped working again... i belive the devs have no ideea what they are doing... otherwise i can't explain what is happening...
I have the same problem with ONKYO TX-NR5010. Used to work well until a few days back. Spotify app connects to the receiver, but the songs do not play. I expect Spotify to solve this soonest.
Hi Alex, could you please respond again, since we still have the same issue. Step 2 is necessary, since it is NOT the hardware (we have all tested this). Please continue to solve this problem and don’t let us hang 😔
Same problem with onkyo tx-nr717 and all android phones (Galaxy S21FE, Galaxy A32, Redmi 10) we use. Worked very well for a long time after having updated the onkyo with the lates software. But since some weeks no sound on the onkyo despite the connection between android app and onkyo seems to work!
Same problem. Onku TX-8150. Spotify on iphone 13 and ipad. Connection with spotify shows on display of my receiver. But no sound.
Firmware is up to date
Receiver is online
Router up to date and reset
Spotify is paid 😞
Spotify fix this!!
Same problem, Onkyo 656 reciever
Hey there,
Thanks for the replies and the provided information.
We have relayed the device specific data to our tech team. They're currently investigating the reasons for this behavior. We can't commit to a specific timeframe of a potential fix. In the meantime you can keep you app up to date though, so you don't miss out on the fix.
One more thing. Could you try changing the DNS settings of your playback device:
1. Open your radio network settings
2. Look if you can find any DHCP / IP / DNS settings
3. If such are present, turn DHCP off and put a static IP with a new DNS: 64.225.68.86
Did this work?
Cheers!
@Dian, didn't work for me. Spotify now doesn't even show the receiver anymore.
It worked with me on ONKYO NR-TX5010 after changing the DNS. Thanks Dian. Highly appreciated.
@Dian this fixed it for me, at least for now. 😄
Using static IP with a new DNS: 64.225.68.86 fixed it for me
Changing the DNS address solves the problem that Spotify has.
Here is the explanation:

My system (Onkyo TX-NR616) works now, too. I changed the DNS address.
Spotify should solve this problem.
I have the same problem (Onkyo TX-8150) and have been talking with Spotify (Cares) via Twitter. They know of the problem and are working on it. So they say!
Their suggestion was to use Airplay, but this works very bad: sometimes I get one song to stream and then the connection is lost again. It is definitely something in Spotify.
I send this website to them so they can learn.
For now we have to wait. Without the waiting music 🤕
Same here with Onkyo TX646, and neither via Samsung S21 android app nor via open.spotify Chrome webapp works at all. Spotify connect is completely silent on my receiver and stuck in the pause mode on the receiver (and I guess therefore mute), while it plays on the app or webapp.
Changing DNS didn't change a thing for me. It seems Spotify has to fix what they have broken (if they know what is the cause of it)
Forgot to mention that I workaround it (for now) by using direct BT connection between the phone and the receiver... at least that works - the sound comes out, but it's not pretty, so hopefully Spotify solves it soon enough.
Same issue with Android and Onkyo rz-710. Connects and volume is controllable. Shows the album cover but no sound or timer.
